Favorite Local Bike Trails

San Mateo County is known for its plentiful bike-friendly terrain and beautiful scenery. Did you know? On Bicycle Sundays, a segment of Cañada Rd is closed to vehicles from 9am – 3pm, making it easy to sneak off to enjoy the quiet and safety of riding on the open road surrounded by beautiful scenery at the edge of Crystal Springs Reservoir on the Peninsula.  If you are feeling more adventurous, 7×7 Magazine invites you to take a spin through their recent write-up on The Ultimate Sunday Bike Ride: Riding the San Andreas Fault : “…cruise some fifteen or so miles directly above this seismic rift on a popular cycling route that includes a segment, like the fault itself, named after the lake where we begin our ride.”

There are so many way to enjoy San Mateo County on 2-wheels, here are 3 of our top picks in no particular order:

1. The San Francisco Bay Trail takes you 330 miles from San Mateo shores, along the San Pablo Bay all the way around the San Francisco Bay. In its entirety, the trail connects all nine Bay Area counties. Accessible from cities all around the Bay, the trail offers something for everyone, regardless your skill level. And as an added bonus, the trail is pet friendly so bring your four-legged friends along for the ride!

2. Crystal Springs Regional Trail – Sawyer Camp Trail – This 12-mile loop offers both flat and inclined trails. Parts of the trail are completely shaded with gorgeous trees while others offer incredible views of the water.

3. Seal Point Park – Seal Point Park offers a variety of terrain for hills for the pros and flat trails for the novice. Take your time pedaling through the natural and restored habitats – you’ll find wildlife of all kinds along these trails. Seal Point Park has breathtaking views of the Bay and a nice breeze.
