San Mateo by the Numbers

There’s no question that San Mateo is among the most livable cities in the country. Easy transportation, plenty of open spaces, thriving businesses and a sense of community make it a great choice to live, work or enjoy some leisure time.

You don’t need to do the research, though. We’ve got the numbers to prove it.

Are you in the mood for some time outdoors? The City of San Mateo operates about 200 acres of Parks and 6 community centers with 2 pools, over 900 athletic and fitness classes and more than 500 creative classes.

Hungry? There are over 350 restaurants in San Mateo.

Are you a cyclist or just like to head out for a weekend bike ride? San Mateo has 2,763 Bike Routes, 155 courses and 7 cycling groups.

Interested in volunteering for your community?  The volunteer spirit shines in San Mateo with over 1,887 volunteers in the fourth quarter of 2013. These volunteers performed a whopping 20,318 hours of community service.

Within a three-mile radius from the center of San Mateo there are over 7,100 businesses and over 72,000 employees.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

The City of San Mateo loves to reduce, reuse and recycle and thanks to the efforts of the residents and businesses, the city has higher than average diversion rates. In 2013, Recology reported a 30% increase in composting and recycling and a 19% decrease in the amount of trash collected.

Whatever you may be looking to do or experience, San Mateo’s got some great options for you.
