Super Bowl L just got a little closer to home

Get ready for state-of-the-art Levi’s Stadium to play host in February 2016 and bring the Super Bowl back to the Bay Area for the first time since 1985. Super Bowl L will celebrate its 50th anniversary at the new cutting-edge stadium in Santa Clara, preceded by a week-long series of public events and celebrations held throughout the Bay Area. The Super Bowl Village, the NFL Experience and the Media Center will be hosted in San Francisco.

“Santa Clara is proud to host the Super Bowl’s golden anniversary game in the Golden State,” said Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews. “Around the world, all eyes will be focused on our city and the Bay Area on February 7, 2016, so we are excited to showcase our region’s beauty, culture and innovative spirit.”

Because it’s located in the Golden State at the home stadium of the San Francisco 49ers, a team named after the miners of the California Gold Rush, and because the 50th anniversary is traditionally the “golden anniversary”, this year’s event has been dubbed as the Golden Super Bowl.

“Now the entire region can circle the date on our calendars and work together to produce a spectacular, efficient and safe Super Bowl experience,” said Keith Bruce, CEO of the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl Host Committee. “We are excited for what lies ahead in the coming months as our planning begins in earnest.”

The Super Bowl offers opportunities for the entire region. Working in partnership with Bay Area public officials and the NFL, the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl Host Committee is responsible for planning and delivery of Super Bowl L’s celebration elements, including the Super Bowl Village, public exhibits, and preparation of game day.

The leadership team believes the Super Bowl is more than just a game; it’s about the opportunity to bring people together and give back in a meaningful way. The Host Committee Advisory Group includes some of the leading innovators in their respective fields, all of whom are united in their love for the Bay Area and the opportunity that comes with hosting a Super Bowl. The group is committing 25% of every dollar raised to a legacy fund that will benefit Bay Area nonprofits and initiatives directly supporting our region. Information on the Super Bowl L Legacy Fund will be available this summer.

“We’re looking forward to game day and having a global spotlight on Santa Clara and our beautiful new stadium,” says Steve Van Dorn, President & CEO of the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce and Convention-Visitors Bureau. “We expect our Santa Clara businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and shops to be overflowing Super Bowl week.”

We are looking forward to this amazing sports venue close to home at Bay Meadows and the Super Bowl commemorating its Golden Anniversary minutes away! Whether your seat in history is at home on your couch in San Mateo or in Santa Clara close to the gridiron, you’ll be close to the action and enthusiasm that one of the single largest, annual sporting events in the world brings.
