Field House: Leased and Green

We love it when good news comes in twos. 1. Bay Meadows is delighted to announce that Field House, our first rental community, is 100% leased. 2. Field House is “green certified.”

While low-flow toilets, Energy Star appliances and recycling 86% of construction waste might not sound like the most thrilling of topics, we all know that in a changing environment, efforts such as these are critical.

In fact, such environmentally-sustainable features are at top-of-mind for both the City of San Mateo and for the team at Bay Meadows. Increasingly, residents, too are becoming more aware of the value of “green design.” It not only supports greater climate goals, but such green features result in higher quality buildings.

And so it was that Field House, Bay Meadows’ first rental community, has received a whopping 115 points under the “Build it Green” rating system. This point total is a full 50% higher than the 75 points that major jurisdictions in California consider to be LEED Silver equivalent.

Field House was selected as a “green demonstration project” by the San Mateo Planning Commission, which asked the Bay Meadows team to strive for a LEED Silver or equivalent standard certification. We’re pleased to have over-delivered on our agreement with the city. We’re also proud to be doing our part to build a more sustainable future.

The San Mateo Planning Commission and City Council recently toured this “green demonstration project.” In addition to the three features cited above, the tour also viewed the following elements that make Field House so “green”:

– Located next to mass transit with ample bicycle storage
– Electric vehicle parking
Bicycle-sharing program
Drought-tolerant landscaping
– Highly efficient hydro-zoned irrigation system
– Windows engineered specifically for climate
Water conserving plumbing fixtures (shower, toilet, faucets)
– 95% efficient water heaters
– Energy Star dishwashers
– All lighting high efficacy
– Insulated significantly beyond code requirements
Low-VOC paint used throughout project
