Strap on your helmets for Tour de Peninsula

The 24th Tour de Peninsula Family Bicycle Ride — the largest, urban-based, organized Bay Area bicycle ride whose slogan is “It’s not a race, it’s a ride” — will start and finish at the Eucalyptus picnic area, Coyote Point Park, in San Mateo on Aug. 2.

Presented by Whole Foods Market, proceeds from the event benefit the San Mateo County Parks Foundation and Bicycle Sunday (car-free biking on Canada Road).

According to Julia Bott, executive director of the San Mateo County Parks Foundation, “one of the mottos is no pain, no pain. It is really about enjoying the outdoors.”

That’s perfect for Team Webcor Cycling, an advocacy group for the community since 2010.

“We feel like we should do our part to make the roads safer for cyclists as well as a better coexistence with the motorists,” said Ted Huang, the head of Team Webcor, which began as an amateur cycling racing club.

“Then we started the professional team in order to help aspiring women cyclists to try and achieve their athletic potential,” Huang added. Read more about Huang and Team Webcor in this story from the Mercury News>>

San Mateo is a great place to meet people and connect. Meet Up and Mosey are both good places to find groups with common interests and ideas for fun things to do. Another thing San Mateo is great for is food. San Mateo even won Rand McNally’s Best of the Road: Best Small Town for Food! Take a look at the Ramen Crawl we created on Mosey, which includes 8 delicious ramen restaurants. Mmm…
