Meetup, Create Connections through Sips and Savors

It’s hard to live on the peninsula and NOT be a foodie. We are literally surrounded by a variety of incredible eating and drinking venues. If you love to explore new dining experiences and venues with people who share your passion, look no further than this short, local list of food and wine gatherings, courtesy of Meetup.

San Mateo Wine Tasting Group
This group is for everyone with an interest in wine, whether you are just starting to learn or are studying for the Master Sommelier exam, like the organizer of this meetup group.   Here you will find a friendly meet-up where bottles are opened and there is discussion about what makes them special and perhaps make some new like-minded friends during the process. All events will always include food.

Spices and curry Indian cooking & foodie Meetup
Interested in learning about Indian cooking? Explore all the spices, curries and the amazing dishes you can learn to cook or choose to just watch and eat! It’s all up to you. The group plans on having classes and Indian feast meetup once in a month. The location is in San Mateo in a 3,800 sq. ft. state of the art grand catering kitchen. All are welcome!

Gluten-Free Club at Draeger’s
If you are restricted to a Gluten-Free diet for health issues or exploring the options of a gluten-free diet, there’s a meetup just for you. Draeger’s Market has created the Draeger’s Gluten-Free Club. The meetings provide an opportunity for the public to expand its knowledge of gluten-free foods, while offering access to dietary experts, gluten-free samples and other resources. Now in its 6th year, this meetup group boasts almost 800 members and is a great resource for all things gluten-free.

Clean Plate Club: Healthy Eating for Healthy Living
If you have an interest in eating clean, this is a group for you. Healthy living is all about making the right choices. Critical to making healthy decisions is having knowledge about the foods you are eating, engaging in activity and supporting your diet with the proper nutrition. Whether you are interested in eating better, weight management, fueling your body as an athlete or discovering the proper food your body needs to feel its best, then come see if this is a fit for you. Everyone is welcome.

Bay Area Food Adventures
This group aspires to create an online foodie community of local events around the Bay Area, and maybe even simple happy hours.  Past events have included a San Mateo Food Crawl as well as a Latin Food Crawl through San Mateo. The organizer hopes to improve everyone’s life by adding to the foodie culture.

San Mateo is a great place to meet people and connect. Meetup and Mosey are both good places to find groups with common interests and ideas for fun things to do. Another thing San Mateo is great for is food. San Mateo even won Rand McNally’s Best of the Road: Best Small Town for Food! Take a look at the Ramen Crawl we created on Mosey, which includes 8 delicious ramen restaurants. Mmm…

Walkscore.com rates Bay Meadows high on the list for walkable locations to live on the San Francisco Peninsula and for good reason! Bay Meadows has a high Walkscore because it is steps from shopping, groceries, parks, Caltrain, a farmer’s market and a few short miles from downtown San Mateo with its bourgeoning restaurant scene. Check out our Mosey suggestions for more places to explore on foot!
