San Mateo is kicking off the season in style. The Caltrain Holiday Train is headed down the San Francisco Peninsula the weekend of December 2-3, stopping in our transit friendly town of San Mateo on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at approximate 7pm! View the full schedule here. During the 20-minute station stops, Santa, Mrs. Claus, Frosty and the gang will get off the train to greet children and spread holiday cheer. The dazzling show train, with more than 70,000 glittering lights, visits nine stations between San Francisco and Santa Clara.

Guests are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for a child in need and put it in the toy donation barrels at the stations and use the hashtag #HolidayTrain2023 to help spread the word. The toys are distributed after the event by The Salvation Army and Toys for Tots. Enjoy a magical evening with twinkle lights, holiday tunes and much more. In 2014, this free family event attracted more than 25,000 community members and facilitated the collection of more than 3,000 toys for local children who might otherwise have been forgotten at this time of year. Bundle up, bring a friend and a thermos of hot cocoa.
