Dwell Features Bay Meadows’ Living Wall, Again

Highlighting 10 projects whose architects and designers have incorporated vertical gardens, Dwell Magazine recently featured Bay Meadows’ Welcome Center.

Along with international projects in Singapore, Vancouver and the Ukraine, among others, Dwell included the lush living wall designed by a collaboration of BCV Architects, CMG Landscape Architecture and Habitat Horticulture. Read the full story to get tips for creating your own >

Measuring 86 feet in length, the vertical garden’s design team selected plants for their ability to promote the ecological health of the surrounding area. Plantings were chosen to attract butterflies and pollinators, with edible lavender, coral bells (a favorite of hummingbirds), and natives like wild strawberries and fragrant yerba buena.

Originally constructed as a sales trailer, the community bid farewell to Bay Meadows’ Welcome Center in 2015, to make way for much-needed housing in the neighborhood.

The living wall was originally featured by Dwell in 2013 in a story titled “A Green Wall in Silicon Valley.” See that full story here >
