Bay Meadows and The Nueva School have come together to create a home for The Nueva School’s new high school. The Nueva School, a nationally recognized independent school located in the San Francisco Bay Area serves high-ability students and emphasizes integrated studies, creative arts, and social-emotional learning. The new high school, designed by architectural firm Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects, will sit on 2.76 acres on the northern portion of Bay Meadows. The school will include classroom space, labs, a 425-seat theater, a gymnasium, an underground parking garage, and a variety of outdoor spaces, such as contemplative study areas, inviting activity courts and inspiring and educational gardens.
The Nueva School’s student internship programs will be bolstered by potential collaborations with the future commercial tenants located at Bay Meadows Station. An extraordinary, interpretive landscape will extend from the western edge of the campus into the adjacent park, modeling San Mateo’s diverse ecologies – from redwood forests to bay wetlands. And since Bay Meadows is directly adjacent to the Caltrain Hillsdale Station and served by SamTrans bus service students, faculty, staff, and visitors have the unique opportunity to take public transportation directly to school.
