A Bay Meadows Leader is Honored
While chants of “Go Dubs” last night referred to the “W” in Warriors, the NBA team, it easily could have stood for Go W-omen! The occasion was the San Francisco Business Times’ Annual “Most Influential Women in Business” awards.
Among the honorees was Elizabeth Billante, Vice President/Investment Management for Stockbridge and Wilson Meany. As such, she is charged with leasing and marketing Bay Meadows’ commercial components.
The occasion was particularly meaningful for Bay Meadows, which boasts a leadership team comprised largely of women. Janice Thacher, partner with Wilson Meany, notes, “We try to cultivate a culture of respecting our staff, period. We hire talented, skilled women and men who get the job done.”
“From the top down at Wilson Meany, there is simply a tone of respect, and mentorship is a priority,” Elizabeth says. “We are surrounded by so many smart, strong women here that it can be easy to forget that women leaders in commercial real estate are not the norm.”
Acceptance “speeches” at the awards event were strictly limited, with oversight from Business Times’ Publisher Mary Huss. “Ten words or less,” Huss commanded, and explained that remarks should respond to one of a number of questions: “What is your secret to success? What is your guiding principle? What makes a great leader?”
Elizabeth took her moment at the podium to make the most timely remark of the evening, “In the spirit of the Warriors, you can’t score if you don’t shoot.”
Well said! Congratulations, Elizabeth! #GoDubs #GoWomen!
