Fieldwork Brewing to Open Beer Garden at Bay Meadows
Since opening its brewery in Berkeley in 2015, Fieldwork Brewing Company has earned a reputation for uniquely delicious, craft-driven, fresh beer. Critics’ praise for Fieldwork is effusive: “Fieldwork simply has the magic touch.” “The beers are outstanding.” “The range and creativity know no bounds.” “They’re exciting and relentless.” (Get a “taste” of Fielwork’s unique brews from their flavor tasting notes here > )
Additionally, visitors to Fieldwork’s original East Bay taproom also get a taste of a family-friendly, community vibe. That combination of Fieldwork’s artisan spirit along with their focus on fun, authentic gathering spaces made them a perfect match to open an outdoor beer garden at Bay Meadows.
It’s with great pleasure that we announce Fieldwork at Bay Meadows. Enjoying a pint of the finest local beer while brushing up on your bocce game is the next offering on tap at Bay Meadows!

Bay Meadows’ owner Stockbridge and developer Wilson Meany announced that Fieldwork will operate a 4,500 square-foot outdoor beer garden featuring communal seating, adjacent fire-pits, and leisure activities. Set to open in spring 2017, Fieldwork Brewing at Bay Meadows will offer a rotating selection of a dozen beers along with a menu of small bites and growlers to-go.
Fieldwork’s fresh beer – from the Calypso to Galaxy Juice to Olde Dubliner and more – are now featured prominently in taprooms across northern California. Fieldwork at Bay Meadows will be in a spacious garden environment designed by a collaboration between CMG Landscape Design, the group responsible for projects such as SF MOMA’s Sculpture Garden and Mint Plaza, and RadLab, a San Diego-based team known for its creative use of shipping containers in popup parks. Fieldwork joins artisanal purveyors Blue Bottle Coffee and Tin Pot Creamery to serve the thousands of residents, visitors and workers at this new mixed-use urban village. Matt Holmes and AJ Schrader of RetailWest represented both groups in the deal.
“What an opportunity for Fieldwork to bring our fresh beer to Silicon Valley, in a place that’s friendly for families, walkable, bike-able, and right near the Caltrain station,” said Fieldwork co-owner Barry Braden. “Fieldwork at Bay Meadows will be like a front yard to relax in with friends or co-workers; the perfect outdoor spot to enjoy our ever-changing list of fresh releases by the flight, the glass or fresh beer filled to-go.”
Fieldwork at Bay Meadows will be located adjacent to Station 4 – SurveyMonkey’s new headquarters – and across from Station 3, which will be partially occupied by tenant OpenText. The beer garden will be nestled amid a series of landscaped spaces and traditional streetfront retail on Delaware Street. Dubbed the neighborhood’s “social street” for its welcoming design, pop-up fitness options, mobile kiosks and potential for events, Delaware Street opens up to Bay Meadows’ Town Square.
“We’re very excited to welcome Fieldwork Brewing to our roster of neighborhood-serving retail at Bay Meadows—not only do they have an exceptional product with a huge following, Fieldwork also has a team of beer crafters that really care about nurturing a sense of community, which aligns perfectly with our own objectives,” said Janice Thacher, partner at Wilson Meany.
