Amy & Kirk love animals and grew up caring for their own pets, as well as volunteering with their local Humane Societies. They both spent many years in corporate positions but didn’t feel fulfilled or satisfied and found that they weren’t spending enough time as a family. They decided to leave the rat race and go in a different direction, and thus GOOD DOG! Dog Walkers & Pet Sitters was born.  Long time animal lovers, the family has two gorgeous black rescue cats; Jack Peabody and George Harrison, allowing them more time to dedicate to their dog duties! Jack is a Maine Coon who weighs in at 17+ lbs and is afraid of his own shadow! Georgie is an 8 lb Bombay who’s convinced that everyone that comes over is there to visit him.

Amy is a long-time participant in Twilight Tails, an event designed specially for pooches and their people at Bay Meadows in San Mateo’s Landing Green Park. “When I walk in the neighborhood, I always run into someone I know and I meet new people and new dogs every day! Dogs are welcome in and around almost every establishment and everyone provides water and dog-friendly seating. Bay Meadows is more than just a complex of apartments and houses, it’s a community of beautiful homes where real families come to live and grow.” In addition to taking your best four-legged pal to the Beer Garden at Fieldwork Brewing Co., Amy recommends the many restaurants in San Carlos along Laurel Street that offer dog-friendly patio seating.

Amy on how her business was born: “I contacted our pet sitter to come take care of our cats and found out that she was unavailable. She was selling her business and moving away! Kirk immediately saw the golden opportunity in front of us and made the decision right then and there. At first, I thought he was crazy! What a goofy way to make a living! Well, it’s two years later now and I’ve definitely eaten my words. I love our business! I’ve never enjoyed anything I’ve done as much as this! We love every animal and treat each one as if they were our own. It’s the best decision we’ve ever made for our family as well as our finances and sanity! Our daughter participates in every aspect of our business from helping put marketing materials together and walking dogs with us to helping us at the Pooch Pit Stop at the Farmer’s Market at Bay Meadows. “We’re both dog people thru and thru. I can’t help but stop and say hello to every dog I meet! Kirk was raised on a working farm so he knows just about everything there is to know about most types of animals. We both have training backgrounds as well. Neither of us is certified in dog training but we can support any current training efforts and help strengthen skills in training.”

For dogs that don’t like boarding or perhaps have anxiety issues, we offer in-home overnight care. We do our best to maintain their normal routines and provide them with a safe and caring atmosphere while their people are away.
