A Peninsula Hunt for Pumpkins

Fall is the ideal time to grab a light sweater and step outside to partake in a variety of old-fashioned family fun around the area including hayrides, haunted houses and of course picking the perfect pumpkin for Halloween. Life at Bay Meadows means being closer to the many things that make us nostalgic for autumn. Kick off the season by finding your decorative gourds and future jack-o-lanterns at one of these Peninsula spots:

ABC Tree Farms
Location: 1.5 miles from Bay Meadows at 1863 S. Norfolk St. at Fashion Island Blvd, San Mateo.
Hours: Sunday thru Thursday from 10am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 9pm

This pumpkin patch offers tons of inflatable fun for children ages 2-12. Besides the giant inflatable fun, this lot offers lots of different varieties of pumpkins and a wonderfully decorated “memory zone” to take pictures of your little ones.

Lemos Farm
Location: 11 miles from Bay Meadows at 12320 San Mateo Rd., Half Moon Bay.
Hours: Open 7 days a week 9am – 5pm in October.
During September and October Lemos farm turns into Halloween Palooza covered in hay, spooky cutouts, and pumpkins with the most popular Halloween attractions, the Haunted House and Ghost Train! With two different versions of the Haunted House, (non-scary and scary) it’s fun for everyone! But you’ve been warned, the second version will scare the YELL out of ya!

Farmer John’s Pumpkin Patch
Location: 13 miles from Bay Meadows at 850 North Cabrillo Highway, Half Moon Bay.
Hours: Opens mid-September through Halloween, Mon–Fri 9am–5pm, Sat & Sun 9am–5pm.
Farmer John’s Pumpkin Farm offers a fun, family atmosphere in a relaxing country setting where everyone is welcome, including your canine pals! They grow a diverse variety of pumpkins and squash, including their specialty, the Atlantic Giant.

Webb Ranch Pumpkin Patch 
Location: 15 miles from Bay Meadows at 2718 Alpine Rd, Portola Valley.
Hours: Open 7 days a week from 10am-6pm through Halloween
This family-owned and operated farm has a pumpkin patch featuring more than 20 varieties of pumpkins. They organic pumpkins on over 30 acres at the Webb Ranch Farm as well as have local farmers ship in select pumpkins each week for freshness. On site hay rides, pony rides, a train ride, and corn path make this a destination that is all about the pumpkins and more.

Arata’s Pumpkin Farm
Location: 20 miles from Bay Meadows at 185 Verde Rd., Half Moon Bay.
Hours: Sunday – Thursday 9am – 6:30pm, Friday – Saturday 9am – 10:30pm for October

Lose yourself in the six-acre corn field and pumpkin river. Challenge yourself intellectually and physically in the two acre world famous Minotaur’s Labyrinth Hay Maze. Take a walk on the wild side and adventure into the Haunted Barn. Relax and enjoy yourself on the Hay Ride. Or you can let the kid’s play in the Play Land playground with Miniature Hay Maze, on the Children’s Train Ride or have fun with the animals in the Petting Zoo. They also feature dozens of varieties of pumpkins and sizes.

And don’t forget…some fresh fall decor can always be found at the weekly College of San Mateo Farmers Market and Whole Foods just a short stroll from your front doors at Bay Meadows!
