Get ready to enjoy a full month of activities in the Bay Meadows neighborhood and beyond. We’ve rounded up an agenda full of spooky celebrations, pumpkin madness, anime, and more. When you live just steps from Caltrain it’s easy to get from here to ‘there’ car-free! October 2, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23, 26, 30, Bay Meadows Run Club with Basecamp San Mateo. Join this free fun run Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm and Saturday mornings at 8am. Meet at 3050 S. Delaware for a 2-, 3-, 4- or 6-mile loop (something for everyone) to get moving. Run, jog, or walk. Happening weekly – rain or shine. All paces and people are welcomed. Members often gather in Town Square for a Blue Bottle coffee or at Fieldwork Brewing Beer Garden after each run. Plus, there’s no fee! You heard right – membership is not required. This is a community building fun run, compliments of our neighbors at Basecamp Bay Meadows.

October 5, 12, 19, 26, College of San Mateo Farmers’ Market. Shop seasonally and fresh each Saturday from 9am to 1pm (year-round) at San Mateo’s largest farmer’s market located at 1700 West Hillsdale Boulevard. The best summer produce is joined with the first of the fall harvest. Get your stone fruit before it’s gone, and enjoy apples, grapes, and winter squash! Seasonal Highlight: Daikon.

October 4, First Friday. The San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City will be open without admission fees the first Friday of every month as part of its continuing “FREE First Fridays” program.

October 4, Movies in the Parks – Barrett Park. Enjoy annual Movies in the Parks showings in Belmont. All movies will begin at sundown. Bring your own blankets and pick up some take-out food from the nearby restaurants. Come before the movie to play games.

October 5, SMPD’s Pink Patch Party. Join the annual Pink Patch Party downtown San Mateo from 11-4pm. This Breast Cancer Awareness event will provide no-cost to patient screening mammograms, have resource and education material available, and so much more; all while encouraging early detection.

October 5, PortFest 2024 at the Port of Redwood City. Learn about Redwood City’s maritime heritage and the history of the industrial working waterfront. The family-friendly event includes live music, children’s recreational activities, food trucks, vendor booths and a day of fun overlooking the San Francisco Bay.

October 6, Succulent Topped Pumpkin Workshop. In this San Mateo workshop, Arboretum volunteer, Cathy, will show you how to make a unique decoration to celebrate the Fall Season. You purchase a 6-8 inch wide pumpkin & we will supply you with all the materials you need to decorate your pumpkin.

October 11, Water Lantern Festival 2024 in Foster City. Enjoy this magical floating water lantern event which includes local food trucks, games, activities, vendors, music, and the beauty of thousands of lanterns adorned with letters of love, hope, and dreams reflected upon the water.

October 12, Dia de los Muertos. Join the free Día de los Muertos community celebration in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park in San Mateo. This event is run by the San Mateo Police Activities League and the City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department.

October 12, Belmont Waterdog Run. Run, walk, volunteer, or cheer! Every participant in the 5k, 10k, 1 mile Kids’ run, and the Virtual Run/Walk will receive a 2024 Belmont Water Dog Run race shirt and medal. Dogs who participate in the FIDO mile will receive a Belmont Water Dog Run bandana.

October 12, Benefit Gala 2024. Join the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos for their 20th Annual Benefit Gala: Flying on the Edge. This year’s keynote speaker is Melissa Burns, US Unlimited Aerobatic Team Member, Airshow Performer and Skydiver.

October 12-13, ANIME Impulse. Enjoy a weekend celebration of all things anime, manga, video games, and fandom with the likes of a massive Vendor Hall and Artist Alley for attendees to shop to their hearts’ content, special appearances from voice actors, cosplayers, influencers, and streamers, nonstop live entertainment on its mainstage, and a near endless selection of tasty treats from all sorts of food booths.

October 12-13, San Carlos Art & Wine Faire. This free, fun-filled, outdoor family event features a beautiful array of artwork, live entertainment, some of the area’s finest wines and microbrews, cocktails, delectable food and much more.

October 12-13, “The Headless Horseman” + “Viva La Vida” by Oceánica Ballet. Two one-act story ballets come together in an evening of chills, humor, heart, and autumn festivity celebrating Halloween and Día de los Muertos at the College of San Mateo Theatre.

October 13, The Vampire’s Vault Halloween Market. Enjoy mystery and intrigue as they unlock secrets for the Halloween Season. Sip, shop, and get spooky at the Devil’s Canyon Brewing Co. in San Carlos.

October 18, 49ers Tailgate Live with Tolbert & Copes KNBR 680 at Fieldwork Brewing San Mateo from 2-6pm in the Bay Meadows neighborhood.

October 19,  Clayroom San Mateo Silent Auction Hurricane Helene Benefit. Clayroom San Mateo at Bay Meadows will be hosting a Silent Auction on Saturday 10/19 from 6-8PM to help those affected by Hurricane Helene. ALL proceeds will be donated to the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (Cerf). RSVP HERE.

October 19, Halloween Bootique. Join the Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo for the ultimate Halloween Bootique, where spooky meets chic all powered by Celery Retail. Discover new vendors offering spooky items all Halloween themed. 1-5pm North Block.

October 19, Halloween Spooktacular. Step right up for some Cool Carnival Games, Muah-ah-ah Monster Maze, Creepy Crafts, Spooky Photo Back Drops, Mini Pumpkin Patch, Prizes & FUN in Redwood City. Pre-Registration is encouraged to secure your spot.

October 19, 45th Annual Palestine Cultural Day. The Palestinian American Coalition of SF is excited to announce this year’s Palestine Cultural Day of celebration, culture, and community in Redwood City.

October 19-31, Haunted Hangar. Come in costume and see the Gallery decked out in its spooky Halloween decorations and the “Great Pumpkin” Scavenger Hunt at the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos.

October 20, Southern Biscuits and Cream Scones. Every student is this San Mateo class will make their own batch of biscuit dough from scratch in class. After that move on to cream scones base recipe from which you can make every flavor.

October 26, Boos on B Street & Trick or Treating. Costumes are welcomed and highly encouraged! This event is run by the City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department and the Downtown San Mateo Association and will be SPOOK-tacular in Downtown San Mateo on the Pedestrian Mall on B Street between 1st and 3rd Avenue.

October 26-27, Pumpkin Drop. Join a special celebration of Halloween excitement as the Hiller Aviation Museum’s witch drops her doomed pumpkin from a high flying helicopter in San Carlos.

October 27, Diwali Celebration. Enjoy a Festival of Lights celebration. The Belmont Library and the City of Belmont are curating a colorful event, filled with music, dance, poetry, crafts, and refreshments.

October 27, Yoga for the Pelvic Floor with Aedra Ho. This two hour workshop in San Mateo focuses on helping you build a great awareness of the pelvic floor and deep core stability using yoga poses, movements, and breath work.

October 30, Costume Fun Run at Bay Meadows with Basecamp San Mateo – 6pm!
Make it a Zombie Crawl, Mummy March or suit up and show us your inner Superhero! Get in your costumes and meet your neighbors for a 2- to 4-mile loop around the neighborhood. All paces are welcome. Dogs are also welcome! After the run, participants will head to Fieldwork Brewing Beer Garden at Bay Meadows for a bite and some brews.

October 30, Trunk or Treat. Join the fun at Twin Pines Park in Belmont!

October Sessions at Clayroom. When signing up for 6-week classes, one signs up by selecting (signing up for) the 1st class. Classes 2-6 will occur on a weekly cadence during the same day of the week and time-slot. 6-week in-studio classes for pottery.

Thru November 3, Fall into Science. Look for autumn-themed exhibits at CuriOdyssey in San Mateo like the Bone Zone, ghostly illusions, carnivorous plants, seasonal spins on our Wind Tube and MicroEye, and more. Throughout the science center and zoo, you’ll find pumpkin photo ops for your #fallintoscience selfies, and our always-popular hay bale adventure area offers space to clamber and climb in the Bay View Grove.

Rock the Dock Concert Series. Lounge on the Redwood City waterfront and enjoy live music, dancing, food and fun! Rock the Dock concerts run every Saturday through November 2024.

Trivia Night: Every other Monday at Hillsdale. Gather your pals every other Monday from 6-8pm for Trivia Night hosted by Sandcastle Entertainment! Fantastic food, beer and fun at The Refuge.

Bicycle Sundays. A 3.8-mile segment of Cañada Road along Crystal Springs Regional Trail is closed between the Filoli entrance and Highway 92 allowing for non-motorized activities. Check for holiday closures.

 

Experience Midurban life. Bay Meadows is a family-friendly neighborhood with lots of open space to enjoy all-year long. Whether it’s growing your own vegetables in an organic community garden, playing a game of pick-up basketball after work, team building over bocce in the beer garden, picnicking with family on warm summer nights or with a run around the park, there’s no shortage of green space to explore.
