Mercury News Features Bay Meadows
With Silicon Valley companies competing for workers amid the Bay Area’s increasing commute congestion, tech firms are locating in mixed-use villages as part of their talent acquisition strategies. That’s the trend as reported by the Mercury News in a recent story that featured Bay Meadows.
Interviewing a resident who works at SurveyMonkey, the story noted that a brief, walking commute to an office nearby has become an enviable trek compared to the 90-minute “mega-commutes” that are increasingly common in the Bay Area.
The report notes, [Bay Meadows resident] “Seo’s quick commute soon may become a reality for more Bay Area workers, as some companies shift away from the iconic, stand-alone tech campuses that mark Silicon Valley and often are reached by lengthy car commutes. Instead, employers like SurveyMonkey are setting up shop in spiffy new mixed-use developments that integrate office space, housing, retail and public transit — allowing employees to walk or take BART or Caltrain to work.”
