Meet Neighbors Who Walk to Work
It’s About Time!
When she worked in San Jose, Bay Meadows resident Ada had an hour-long commute to work, each way. It was stressful and exhausting. Now she enjoys a leisurely 10-minute walk to her new job at SurveyMonkey.
“I’m saving 2 hours each day. I’ve caught up on sleep, can catch up on work, don’t have to get so stressed out going back and forth. I have more energy for enjoying life, taking classes, having more time with my husband!”
Residents at Bay Meadows since 2013, Ada and her husband originally moved from San Francisco but “don’t miss living in the city. We liked living in the City, but at Bay Meadows there’s more green, open space and we really know our neighbors … we’re part of a real community.”
In addition to the parks and open space, Ada says that having the nearby amenities, also within walking distance, is the little slice of urban living that she still has at Bay Meadows. “With Whole Foods right around the corner and now Blue Bottle and the other places opening, we’re really saving a lot of time.”
In Praise of the Quick Commute
Another Bay Meadows resident, Priscilla, also started a new job that has her commuting across the street. As an instructor at newly opened LIFT Fitness, Priscilla’s walk to work takes about three minutes.
The ease and convenience has led Priscilla to think about the value of densely designed, mixed-use neighborhoods. “Living where you work also cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions and stress by not battling traffic daily.”
Priscilla and her family also moved from San Francisco to Bay Meadows, initially renting in the Amelia community. “We weren’t sure if we wanted to fully commit to the suburbs … we were also holding out for an end unit in Meadow Walk and entered the lottery 8 times before we got one!”
If her enthusiasm is any indication, it sounds as though it was worth the wait: “Bay Meadows has everything I need on a daily basis within WALKING distance. We shop at Whole Foods, I teach and work out at LIFT (FREE childcare), I can meet friends for coffee at Blue Bottle, even walk to the Hillsdale mall. It really is as urban as suburban living can get!”
