Whole Foods – Whole Community
On February 13th, the San Mateo Chamber of Commerce and the City of San Mateo held the 19th Annual Business Awards. The event recognizes businesses of various sizes for their community leadership. Of the five companies recognized, Bay Meadows was thrilled to see our neighborhood’s very own Whole Foods acknowledged for its environmental philanthropy and contributions within San Mateo.
Medium Business – Whole Foods Market
The San Mateo Whole Foods Market is part of Bay Meadows Phase I and the company plays an active role in building our community. The store supports many programs at Bay Meadows, including Momdays. Whole Foods’ team members take their contributions very seriously, with causes they support including environmental preservation, organic farming/sustainable food, children’s programs and education. Since opening its doors, the San Mateo Whole Foods Market has donated over $380,000 to local non-profits and schools.
The spirit of community in San Mateo doesn’t stop with Whole Foods. We’re happy to congratulate the following businesses for their good work.
Large Business – Sutter Health Mills-Peninsula Health Services
Mills-Peninsula has been serving greater San Mateo County since Mills Hospital first opened after the 1906 earthquake. Now operating a full range of award – winning, local health care services, Mills Health Center is a great innovator in our city.
Good Neighbor – Outback Steakhouse
Being a good neighbor is a driving force behind how Outback Steakhouse does business. Locally, the restaurant has been involved in the San Mateo Police Activities League and has employed five graduates of the PAL program. Outback is also a supporter of the Chamber’s Ambassadors Program.
Community – The Leadership Program of San Mateo, Foster City, Burlingame, Hillsborough
The brainchild of San Mateo leaders, the Leadership Program is celebrating its 25th anniversary and has over 600 graduates, including the mayors of all four cities, as well as seven current or former police chiefs, just to name a few.
Small Business – Barulich Dugoni Law Group, Inc.
The Barulich Dugoni Law Group was acknowledged for its ongoing investment in San Mateo through participation in fundraising events and volunteerism.
