San Mateo Spring Into Summer Parade

Join us at Bay Meadows on Saturday, June 10th at 10am for the first ever Spring Into Summer Parade to kick-off the return of the San Mateo County Fair. San Mateo hasn’t had a parade for nearly five years and the excitement is showing with nearly 10,000 people expected to attend this event made possible due to a collaborative effort between the City of San Mateo and the San Mateo County Event Center. The parade will feature music, floats, dance teams, equestrians and special guests. A new way to celebrate the opening of the San Mateo County Fair!

“We want everyone to be involved. That’s the great thing about parades, they’re sort of the epitome of the community. People get together and make floats, there’s local high school bands,” Dana Stoehr, CEO of the San Mateo County Event Center said, reported The Daily Journal. “I encourage everybody that wants to be in the parade. We want it to be fun, if you have an old car or a youth group, we really want to encourage San Mateo pride.”

The mile-long route begins on Franklin Parkway at Bay Meadows and will wind toward the event center at Saratoga Drive and Delaware Street. The parade is about highlighting community and members are invited to be creative and join the procession by signing up by May 10th.

“This parade is a long-standing dream, and it’s a wonderful and timely opportunity to bring our community together, to celebrate our amazing diversity, showcase our cultural richness and share our pride in San Mateo,” Councilwoman Maureen Freschet said, reported The Daily Journal, later adding “it will be a day of fun and festivities for our San Mateo families and children that will hopefully become a tradition that our residents will look forward to.”

To prepare for the parade, numerous streets will be closed to traffic as early as 7:00 a.m. on parade day.

Staging Area Closures: Close at 7:00 a.m. Park Place parking lots (Franklin Investments Complex) and Franklin Parkway between Boulevard between Saratoga Drive and South Delaware Street.

Parade Route Closure: Close at 9:00 a.m. Park Place and Franklin Parkway and South Delaware from Franklin Parkway to E. 25th Avenue. Barricades will be placed on all street corners that are on the parade route.
