With emissions from on-road transportation continuing to rise, increasing numbers of drivers are exploring the sustainable option of electric vehicles. In a few weeks,  San Mateo residents will have a chance to take a test drive, literally.

The City of San Mateo, in partnership with Plug In America, is hosting its third Electric Vehicle (EV) Expo on Saturday, September 9 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event takes place on the Franklin Templeton Campus at Saratoga Drive and Franklin Parkway and features the latest models of electric cars, other electric-motorized transportation and EV related products.

Whether you’re simply curious to see how EVs handle the road or you want to try an electric bike or even an electric scooter, you’ll want to pop on over to the Expo for this unique, hands-on opportunity.

“For people considering making the switch from carbon-polluting fossil fuel to a more sustainable electric car (or bike or scooter), the Electric Vehicle Expo is a great place to test out all the climate-friendly choices,” said Christine Ferry, City of San Mateo’s Sustainability Analyst.

The City of San Mateo’s Climate Action Plan has identified several measures to achieve greenhouse gas reductions, including increasing adoption of EVs. The Expo builds awareness by offering residents an inside-look at the beauty and simplicity of going electric.

“It’s not realistic to expect everyone to get out of their cars,” says Christine Ferry, “however, it is important to encourage people to switch to low-emission vehicles. There are so many exciting models on the market and we want to raise awareness of the options.”
