How Do You Measure a Year?

“Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes … how do you measure, measure a year?”

So goes a sweet Broadway song titled “Seasons of Love” and as 2018 winds down, it has us thinking about the year at Bay Meadows. We’ve seen neighbors move in, new buildings rise up, kids making friends and so much more.

In our data-obsessed era, we thought it would be fun to measure a year at Bay Meadows in some less algorithm-driven stats. (And, for the numbers-crunchers out there, these were compiled by our humble bloggers without aid of calculators or code, so some stats might be a bit squishy)

Here goes …

Number of PUBLIC Bikes gifted to our new homeowners at the Victory collection from Shea Homes: 24. Special props to Izzy who jumped on his bike and started cycling to work the day after the couple closed on their new home.

Number of snaps on Instagram, Yelp, Facebook featuring a Blue Bottle Coffee product out in Town Square in 2018: 72

Average number of pooch attendees at our weekly, seasonal Twilight Tails in Landing Green Park: 22 in 2018. Year’s highlight – the six winners of our Howl-o-Ween contest, with Top Prize going to Duncan the Boston Mix who won a photo sesh with Paws and Play for his costume as House from UP. Number of kids pictured deliriously and happily consuming Tin Pot Creamery ice cream while playing in Town Square (according to a number of sites, including Google, Instagram and Yelp): 168

Fieldwork Brewing Company at Bay Meadows has become a destination. The delicious and unique craft brews are the top reason (number of rotating flavors on tap at any given time: 15). There are a number of other reasons Yelp reviewers named for giving this popular outdoor beer garden stellar reviews. Here’s a handful, by numbers of reviewers mentioning these features:

  • Kid and family-friendly: 50 reviewers highlighted this quality of the beer garden.
  • Dog-friendly: 33 reviewers noted this as a popular spot for dogs.
  • Bocce court: 28 mentions.
  • Fire pits: 17 reviewers noted the cozy fire pits to keep warm by.
