We’ve started the endless list of possibilities to build community in your Bay Meadows neighborhood:

Smore’s Day: While annual Smores Day is August 10th, we’re never quite ready for summer to end. Bring back the summer favorite for one evening to signify the seasonal shift. Everyone loves s’mores, no matter the age. Create S’mores stations with creative mix-in’s like cookies, Nutella, bananas, berries, sprinkles, and more.

Apple Farm Outing: Apple season is here. Make a family outing of it! Venture along the Peninsula to Gizdich Ranch, Live Earth Farm or Clearview Orchards in Watsonville or head to Swanton Pacific Ranch at the Old School House in Davenport. These are some great recipes to use with your fresh picks.

Sunflower Selfies: Arrange an annual trip to Andreotti Farms and take selfies in the sunflower fields. Peak season for sunflower picking is between September and October. Picture yourself and all your neighborhood pals in a field of sunflowers!

Outdoor Game Day: Outdoor games are a great way to enjoy the amazing weather we experience on the SF Peninsula. Break out the giant Jenga, Connect 4, bean bag toss and more to create an annual game day on one of the many lawns at Bay Meadows.

Autumn Bike Ride: Plan a local bicycle tour around the area to take in the beautiful fall scenery. You can turn this into a monthly event with a bicycle club, it’s easy when your neighborhood connects directly to the San Francisco Bay Trail!

Favors of Fall Bake-Off: Pumpkin, cinnamon, apple, maple, cranberry and more take center stage this season. There are so many possible treats you can make with your family to share with neighbors as you boast your culinary prowess. Neighbors can sign up to enter the bake-off while others may sign up to judge the creations.

Flannel Festival: Gather guests for an evening of spiced cider or fall cocktails dressed in their favorite flannel for both style and comfort. Twist it up and Invite guests to come dressed in their most obnoxious checkerboard of colors and hold an ugly flannel contest while you’re at it – because why should sweaters have all the fun?

Harvest Feast: Celebrate the seasonal harvest from Persimmon Park Community Gardens or a haul from the College of San Mateo Farmers Market. Reserve the community table outdoors in the garden or a larger space for a long table and plan a garden-to-table feast around seasonal ingredients. It can be a potluck or a chef may be hired to cater using the fresh bounty.

Fall Craft Night: Hand turkeys, leaf-themed candle holders, and anything having to do with pumpkins can make up the bulk of your activities.

Seasonal Wreath or Candle-Making: Add some hygge to your home. Cozy accents are one of the best things about the season. Host a DIY workshop or organize a professional company to come in and do a tutorial. Create a wreath for your front door or use mason jars and seasonal scents like apples, pumpkins, and cinnamon.

Yarn Bomb: Coordinate a knitting class for beginners, class to knit and chat, or a full yarn bomb in the neighborhood. It’s educational and very season-friendly.

Annual Friendsgiving: Create an annual Friendsgiving event at the community table in Persimmon Park or a common space such as a community room or neighborhood park.
