Stylin’ for the Holidays at Blossom Salon and Spa

Frantically trying to get ready for that holiday mixer or just in need of some pampering and stress relief amid the season’s demands? We’ve got the goods to make sure you’re properly appointed for the season.

A number of Bay Meadows residents have discovered a treasure that’s just a stroll away. Thanks to Landsdowne homeowner Lily for the tip!

Blossom Salon and Spa is an Aveda Concept Salon located at 1091 Park Place, not far from Whole Foods. Using Aveda products, Blossom operates wholly independently as its own small business. With a stellar Yelp profile, Blossom earns fierce loyalty because its stylists and estheticians make clients look and feel like a million bucks.

Owner Michelle Cao took a few minutes out of her very full holiday schedule to give us the inside scoop on her business and what’s hot for the holidays … or more on point, what’s healthy for your hair.

When did you open for business?
I opened Blossom Salon and Spa in March of 2014. I had been searching for a good location on the Peninsula for quite some time and was very excited to find this space! I wanted to open a full service salon and spa that complements the neighborhood and community, and this location is an excellent fit.

Who are your customers?
Our customers are people who want to look and feel their best, people who need a retreat, even for just a few hours, away from the stresses over everyday life. Many are our neighbors–residents who live in the neighborhood and professionals that work in the many surrounding businesses. Over the past year, our clientele has grown to include those in nearby communities as well.

The clients that come most regularly are those that put great importance on their personal health and wellness, and those with a desire and commitment to do their part in helping to protect the environment.  Aveda hair and skin care products are made with high quality organically grown flowers and plans as much as possible so our clients love them! The company is deeply committed to supporting sustainable agriculture, which is also important to many of us

What are some of your favorite treatments?
The Aveda Botanical Therapy Treatments for damaged or dry hair are fantastic! Most people treat their hair with chemicals or a lot of heat. These treatments combine essential oils to restore balance in the scalp, the foundation for beautiful hair.

The Green Science Skin Renewing Treatment—a type of facial—is another favorite. We use Aveda’s Green Science product line, which focuses on reducing appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while lifting and firming the skin. The results are amazing!

What are the most popular aromatherapy scents?
The Shampure line was one of the first lines Aveda offered years ago and it is still the most popular scent today! With 25 plants and flower essences, using any of the Shampure products is like smelling a bouquet of flowers on your skin or hair.

What special treatments would you recommend for the holidays?
Other than the two favorites I mentioned (Aveda Botanical Therapy Treatments and the Green Science facial), I would also recommend any of our facial therapy services, which, after careful analysis, our estheticians select personally for your skin type. And who doesn’t enjoy winding down and pampering themselves with a mani-pedi any time of year!

Are there special things your customers ask for around the holidays?
Many of our guests request shampoo and blow dries for special occasions. Some also want to add hair color to create depth in the hair. With the winter season upon us, guests want rich, multi-dimensional hair.
