Bay Meadows August Agenda

Get ready to enjoy a full month of activities in the Bay Meadows neighborhood and beyond. Things are spicing up this August. We’ve rounded up an agenda full of outdoor music and movies, fiestas and dance classes. Don’t miss the Annual San Mateo Chili Cookoff and Clayroom’s Craft Fair! August 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28, 31, Bay Meadows Run Club with Basecamp San Mateo. Join this free fun run Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm and Saturday mornings at 8am. Meet at 3050 S. Delaware for a 2-, 3-, 4- or 6-mile loop (something for everyone) to get moving. Run, jog, or walk. Happening weekly – rain or shine. All paces and people are welcomed. Members often gather in Town Square for a Blue Bottle coffee or at Fieldwork Brewing Beer Garden after each run. Plus, there’s no fee! You heard right – membership is not required. This is a community building fun run, compliments of our neighbors at Basecamp Bay Meadows!

August 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, College of San Mateo Farmers’ Market. Shop seasonally and fresh each Saturday from 9am to 1pm (year-round) at San Mateo’s largest farmer’s market located at 1700 West Hillsdale Boulevard. Bring a big shopping bag or two because the farmers’ tables are filled with everything you need, from the freshest summer fruits and vegetables like berries, corn, tomatoes, peppers, peaches, and summer squash to delightful extras like cut flowers, local honey, jams and sauces, locally-made olive oil, and chocolates. Also find fresh eggs, grass-fed beef, cheeses, and seafood. Seasonal Highlight: Peaches.

August 1, 8, Central Park Music Series. This summer event brings music lovers free live music every Thursday evening. Enjoy a night of music, dancing, food, and fun in San Mateo.

August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Movies on the Square. Enjoy Downtown Redwood City on Courthouse Square by bringing the family out to a FREE movie!

August 2, First Friday. The San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City will be open without admission fees the first Friday of every month as part of its continuing “FREE First Fridays” program.

August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Music on the Square. Enjoy music on Friday evenings in Redwood City. With top-quality local and national musical performers – music fans of all ages will be thrilled to discover and enjoy the most popular summer concert series on the Peninsula.

August 3, September 7, Pub in the Park. Enjoy a stocked British-style pub in Redwood City with quality beers and ciders on tap.

August 4, San Mateo Walking Tour. Explore the fascinating architecture of San Mateo’s National Register eligible Downtown Historic District on a tour led by the San Mateo Heritage Alliance.

August 6, Cumbia Dance Classes. Learn to dance Cumbia with fun and friendly instructors in San Mateo.

August 7, 14, 21, Music in the Park. Families and friends will enjoy our free outdoor concert series in the relaxing setting of beautiful Stafford Park in Redwood City.

August 8, Sunset Hikes at Filoli in Woodside. Explore Filoli’s newly opened trail and trails only accessible with a guide as you venture on a two-mile guided hike. Take a trip into the natural lands of the property. Experience sunset trickling through the trees and animals preparing for their evening routines.

August 10, Coyote Point Summerfest. Join the community celebration from 12- 4pm at Coyote Point Recreational Area in San Mateo and enjoy a food truck round-up for picnicking + GIANT Kites with the Kite Man of Martinez, Tatsumaki Taiko, bike rides hosted by REI, face painting and so much more!

August 10, Body By Alicia. Body Sculpting using Resistance Bands and your own body weight. Will meet outside in the North Block. Class will take place on the grass in front of Lululemon.

August 10, Planes, Trains & Cool Cars. Come check out the Hiller in San Carlos with Unique Aircraft, Garden Steam Model and Lionel Model Trains, and Cool Cars featuring cars from car clubs and individual owners.

August 11, B Street Train. The B Street Train returns, bringing smiles to Downtown San Mateo with FREE train rides and treats on B Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues* on Sunday, August 11 from 3-5pm! *Event details may change due to inclement weather. Rides and giveaways will be first come, first served.

August 11, Flower Arrangement Workshop. Learn how to create a floral arrangement with this San Mateo workshop.

August 15, Paint & Sip at Bottle & Bottega. Step-by-step painting instruction provided in the Belmont class. Ticket price includes all materials, instruction, aprons and a 16×20 take-home canvas.

August 16, Movies in the Parks – Twin Pines Park. Enjoy annual Movies in the Parks showings in Belmont. All movies will begin at sundown. Bring your own blankets and pick up some take-out food from the nearby restaurants. Come before the movie to play games. September 20, October 4.

August 17, Aloha Saturday. Celebrate the spirit of Aloha at Hillsdale in San Mateo. Immerse yourself in melodies of live musical acts, enchanting dancers, and indulge in authentic island delights. An unforgettable island celebration right at home, with plenty of aloha spirit from 12-3pm in the North Block.

August 18, Mutts, Meows & Matchmaking is on August 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on B Street in downtown San Mateo! Meet adoptable dogs, kittens, and more looking for their forever homes! This event, offered by City of San Mateo in partnership with the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA, will feature a fun-filled day of pet adoptions and community connections. It’s the perfect opportunity to find a new furry family member for your Bay Meadows home and support local animal rescue efforts.

August 18, Kids Rock! MCd by Redwood City’s own, Andy-Z, the Master of Music and Play, this series brings high energy and tons of fun to both kids and adults on Courthouse Square in Redwood City.

August 18, Sounds of the Shores. Enjoy the beautiful weather while listening to live music performances by talented local artists from the water’s edge of the Redwood Shores lagoon in Redwood City.

August 20, Bair Island Sunset Walk. Flock together for a lovely walk along the marshes of Bair Island while viewing the flamboyant colors of a California sunset in Redwood City.

August 24, San Mateo Firefighters Association Chili Cookoff. The annual San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department’s annual Chili Off, benefiting MDA Northern California, is happening at Central Park in Downtown San Mateo on Aug 24th from 1100am-5pm. $10 entry fee at the gate gets you a cup of every chili available, a bowl of your favorite chili, and a drink ticket (beer, seltzer, or water). Entertainment this year will be provided by @six50productions and beer will be provided by @Matagrano_inc.

August 24, Pasta Dough – Ravioli and Fettuccine. Discover how to make your own pasta from scratch! In this hands-on class, we begin with the dough – learning how to mix, knead and rest it. Then practice rolling and shaping your pasta dough. Baking Arts in San Mateo.

August 25, North B Street Fiesta. Join your downtown San Mateo community members between 12 to 4:30om to catch craft vendors, a car show, folkloric and Aztec dancers, a DJ, and Mariachi. Enjoy the free entertainment while visiting your favorite North B merchants and sampling various Latin cuisines.

August 25, Kids’ Carnival. Join the excitement with special activities just for kids at the Hiller in San Carlos. Paint the Cessna Cardinal, check out in an airplane or helicopter, and more.

August 30, ART on the Square. Treat yourself to unique and original creations by fabulous local artists as you bop to the sounds of the band at Music on the Square in Redwood City.

August 31, Clayroom San Mateo Summer Craft Fair. Join your Bay Meadows and San Mateo neighbors from 11am to 5pm at 3050 S. Delaware St. in Bay Meadows neighborhood to catch an event featuring a variety of incredible original ceramic artwork –  highlighting original works from over thirty small-batch ceramic artisans at the studio. Take home one-of-a-kind, locally made art pieces for sale and learn more about classes and workshops at the studio for everyone in your family.

Rock the Dock Concert Series. Lounge on the Redwood City waterfront and enjoy live music, dancing, food and fun! Rock the Dock concerts run every Saturday through November 2024.

Trivia Night: Every other Monday at Hillsdale. Gather your pals every other Monday from 6-8pm for Trivia Night hosted by Sandcastle Entertainment! Fantastic food, beer and fun at The Refuge.

Bicycle Sundays. A 3.8-mile segment of Cañada Road along Crystal Springs Regional Trail is closed between the Filoli entrance and Highway 92 allowing for non-motorized activities. Check for holiday closures.

 

Experience Midurban life. Bay Meadows is a family-friendly neighborhood with lots of open space to enjoy all-year long. Whether it’s growing your own vegetables in an organic community garden, playing a game of pick-up basketball after work, team building over bocce in the beer garden, picnicking with family on warm summer nights or with a run around the park, there’s no shortage of green space to explore.
