Established in 2008 by co-founders Jake Godby and Sean Vahey, Humphry Slocombe became an instant hit with the local food scene. So which one is Humphry and which one is Slocombe? The answer is neither. Inspired by their love of British comedy, Humphry Slocombe is named after the two lead characters (Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocombe) from the fabulous 1970’s sitcom “Are You Being Served?”

Due to their unusual take on ice cream and uncompromising quality, Humphry Slocombe has been listed as best ice cream in several culinary publications and was named Top 5 Ice Cream in America by Food Network. Today they are more popular than ever, with several locations throughout the Bay Area, including right here at Bay Meadows.

We always look for complementary businesses and at Bay Meadows, we loved the fact that we would be between a Blue Bottle and Roam Burger. Coffee and burgers are perfect complements to ice cream! We also love being near beer and Fieldwork Brewing San Mateo is just across the street, says the team at Humphry Slocombe.

The company’s innovative and delicious flavors have garnered a cult following among foodies and dessert enthusiasts alike. Boasting names as creative as their flavors, Humphrey Slocombe offers an ever-evolving and diverse menu of refreshing treats. Some of their most popular flavors include Secret Breakfast (bourbon and cornflakes), Vietnamese Coffee, Tahitian Vanilla and Black Sesame. They also offer vegan and gluten-free options as well. Two new vegan flavors just introduced include Cherry Elderflower and XXXL Chocolate!

What is Sean and Jake’s personal favorite flavor? The answer is the same – Vietnamese Coffee. Most recently though, another flavor (introduced last year) has captured Jake’s heart, the Spiced Pear, which was created with St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur.

The top three best selling brand flavors are Secret Breakfast, Malted Milk Chocolate and Vietnamese Coffee!
