Too Hot to Handle is NOW OPEN at Clayroom San Mateo! The first-ever show at the new Bay Meadows studio features over 20 handmade mugs made by members & staff. Each was challenged to create their own version of the classic mug, but each must have a handle.  Stop by Monday-Friday from 10-9 or Sat/Sun from 10-6 at 3050 South Delaware Street to view these extraordinary clay mugs hand crafted by our community. The ‘Too Hot to Handle’ exhibit runs through May 15!

Clayroom San Mateo is a new neighborhood community pottery studio located in Bay Meadows neighborhood. 17′ floor to ceiling windows across most of the studio space brings ample natural light and an open feeling while working.

“I took a handbuilding class with Isabella and had an incredible time. Isabella was super knowledgeable, showed us lots of different techniques and spent lots of time answering questions and helping troubleshoot student projects. The studio space was clean and well organized and everyone was very friendly. They just opened up so I recommend you grab a class/spot before they fill up!” ~Vivian Chao

“I’ve been a student at both Clayroom SoMa and Clayroom Potrero for a while now and recently joined Clayroom San Mateo as a member! If you get a membership at Clayroom, you can bring your bisque fired pieces to the other studios to glaze as well which I think is a great benefit. The studio is beautiful and I’ve never had a hard time finding a parking spot. I’ve really enjoyed being a member here so far. Compared to being a student, I don’t feel as rushed because I have a quarterly membership vs. a 6-week class. The shelves at the studio are wide and have a lot of vertical space which is great. I got a shoe rack for my shelf so I’m able to store more pieces.

I’m still exploring the glazes here but a few of my favorites so far have been: Paula’s Pink under Caramel Steam, Caramel Steam, Licorice and Robin’s Egg.” ~ Karen L. 

The studio is open for memberships, adult and kids classes in wheel-throwing, hand-building and slip-casting to neighbors within Bay Meadows and the greater public.
