Locavore Love at 31st Union
You can tell the moment you walk into the rustic setting of 31st Union that the owners of this establishment are different, different in a good way; they are professional and passionate about food. Self-proclaimed “passionate to the point of obsession” their enthusiasm runs deep, especially when it comes to serving up fresh, local food cooked simply in a warm and welcoming environment.
The Team at 31st Union hails from regions throughout California and believe that the best food is done simply, using the freshest ingredients harvested locally. Their goal is to provide a venue, not only for their appetizing dishes but also for brewers, winemakers, farmers and distillers who share this passion.
California Comfort Food and A Whole Lot More. 31st Union has done an exemplary job of pairing their meals with an impressive assortment of libations: 6 red and 6 white keg wines on tap along with 7 beers on draft plus the highlighting of local distillers. As can be imagined with a restaurant which serves up local, fresh ingredients, their menu consists of 12-14 seasonally changing plates of comfort food.
What will you find in the way of dining options to satisfy your cravings? Favorites such as Housemade Ricotta Gnocchi and Pacific Caught Fish and Chips, boasting Lagunitas IPA Beer Batter and Caper Aioli keep locals and visitors alike coming back for more. Love this place. We always like to try the seasonal cocktail and the daily special. Everything is so well done with an elevated rustic flair. Sunday night is home-made pasta night — and Wednesdays are steak night. And… Thursdays… chicken..everything is great. Wine and Beer on tap and by the bottle. High end craft cocktail menu – with just great quality spirits! Fun environment with friendly, professional service. Great place! – M D. on Yelp
31st Union is a charming farm to table restaurant where one (or more) can go for upbeat service and staff, delicious, innovative small plates, and terrific happy hour. I was so taken with the place I ended up going 3 times in just one week. I thoroughly enjoyed sampling the quinoa salad, fish and chips (reminded me of Thrasher’s in MD, if you’ve ever been there), seafood stew, fried chicken, and smoked sturgeon and watercress (I’m still dreaming of that flavor!). I can’t wait to go back and try all the daily specials. Whether dining alone or with others, 31st Union will not disappoint. Warm feeling, good food, and friendly staff dedicated to your enjoyment. – Jeanne M. on Yelp

San Mateo is a great place to meet people and connect. Meet Up and Mosey are both good places to find groups with common interests and ideas for fun things to do. Another thing San Mateo is great for is food. San Mateo even won Rand McNally’s Best of the Road: Best Small Town for Food! Take a look at the Ramen Crawl we created on Mosey, which includes 8 delicious ramen restaurants. Mmm…
