Bloom That!

Custom flowers, beautifully arranged and delivered in 90 minutes. Did you catch that? 90 minutes. And even better, the flowers are sourced locally in your destination city.

If you’ve ordered flowers, you know it can take hours, even days, for your delivery to arrive. BloomThat is changing the way bouquets are created and delivered and on July 19th visitors to the GOOD Night Design Market will get to see some of their exquisite, hand-crafted bouquets.

Promising  ‘Ridiculously Fast Flowers’, BloomThat operates in 10 cities throughout the Bay Area. And the good news is that starting July 21st, BloomThat is coming to San Mateo. We caught up with this cool new company and chatted with Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, Court Toomey.

Q. What inspired the start of BloomThat?

A. I think everyone has had difficulty purchasing/ordering flowers for a loved one or a friend at some point in their lives.  Whether it’s over the phone with a shop that you’ve never visited, at your local grocery store, or scrolling through hundreds of page views of flower options on a general web network, it’s never been very simple.  We wanted to simplify this process and we have. Plus, there has never been a last minute option and that’s what we specialize in…on-demand flowers.  If you’re on your way home and forgot to get something for your wife’s birthday, we’ve got you covered.  Order by 5:30 pm and we’ll have it there by 7pm.  And the best part: NO delivery fees!

Q. Logistically it seems so challenging to turn around fresh, attractive bouquets in 90 minutes. How do you do it?

A. We have a team of designers who curate a limited number of seasonal bouquets for our customers on a regular basis, so there’s always something in season.  And we change our available arrangements throughout each season so there’s always something new for each occasion.  As for the delivery, in a traffic-congested city like San Francisco, bikes are obviously the fastest (and greenest) form of transportation so we have an awesome team of bike messengers who make sure that all of our flowers arrive on time at their desired destination.

Q. Where do you source your flowers?

A. We try to stay as local as possible…and I really mean local (Bay Area).  Getting the freshest flowers possible ensures a longer lifecycle for our arrangements.  A lot of the flowers used in bouquets from supermarkets and those other websites of floral networks never seem to last more than a few days.  A bouquet I sent my mother recently lasted almost two weeks on her desk at work and she only changed out the water once.  Quality is the most important factor for us, so we do everything we can to make sure we’re putting out the best product possible to our customers (and that begins with where and how the flowers are grown and cut).  We won’t settle for anything less than the best.

Q. You are participating in the GOOD Night Market at Bay Meadows, what do you plan to do at that event?

A. One of our favorite things to do is give away free flowers, so we’ll be doing lots and lots of that! Also, since we’re launching San Mateo delivery two days after the event, we’re going to be offering everyone there 50% off 1 bouquet for our first week of San Mateo service with the promo code BAYMEADOWS

If you needed another reason to stop by Bay Meadows on July 19th for the GOOD Night Design Market here it is. Free flowers and the launch of BloomThat in San Mateo.
