Construction Update: New Mixed-Use Buildings
Bay Meadows is making swift progress on The Russell and Quimby – two new apartment buildings currently under construction. For a sneak-peek “inside” look, we chatted with Brandy Bridges, Wilson Meany Project Manager. Brandy led the building of Bay Meadows’ stunning Field House apartments, as well.
What’s the vision for these mixed-use buildings that overlook the Town Square?
Bay Meadows’ Town Square is an action-filled destination that connects homes, offices, open space, bike trails and public transit with dining, shopping and outdoor entertainment.
The Russell and Quimby will offer 228 new apartment homes, with approximately 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail. This retail will frame up the Town Square experience—both literally and figuratively!
What are some special features of these new apartments? Special amenities, finishes, appliances you’d like to discuss?
We can fill you in a few details now and look forward to chatting more as we get closer to completion!
Quimby, with only 70 homes, will be the smallest of our apartment communities at Bay Meadows—a jewel box overlooking the lush Landing Green Park. Fresh and sophisticated, this building features a cashmere finish palette—soft, tactile, and inviting. Home interiors boast soaring ceilings and massive windows, making the homes light and airy—a place where residents can breathe, relax, recharge, and soar!
With 158 homes, The Russell will be our largest apartment community at Bay Meadows to date–and it is the perfect counterpart to Quimby! This is the home for “doers” who thrive on social interaction, and adore being surrounded by engaging amenities. Residents can grab a coffee downstairs, stroll to work at Survey Monkey, or hop the CalTrain to San Francisco. Work at home days abound –with ideas and creative energy flowing at and around the pool while evening brings a gathering of friends, perhaps enjoying a catered dinner in the sophisticated clubroom which is draped in hand-fired wood, engaging in a rousing debate around a toasty firepit, enjoying a book in the lounge, or maybe hosting a beer tasting over billiards.
What will the ground floor shops feature?
Get ready to sip, savor and munch! The retailers Bay Meadows is looking at are authentic, artisanal and diverse, delivering a unique San Mateo experience.
Can you tell us what’s accomplished thus far regarding construction?
Framing is nearing completion, and roofs will soon be in place. Despite the El Nino rains, we’re on schedule and look forward to delivering 228 new homes and approximately 10,000 square feet of retail towards the end of this year. Retail openings are slated for Q1 of 2017.
What are next steps for these buildings over the next few months?
As framing nears completion, we will be walking each and every home to make sure that every light switch is conveniently placed and lined up straight. Our goal is to deliver the highest quality product in the market, so we will be investing a tremendous amount of time upfront, really minding the details.
It’s also time for the “fun part”. Over the coming months, we’ll be working with our interior designers to carefully select furnishings to complement our gorgeous interiors.
What’s the timeline for the rental office, leasing, etc?
Pre-leasing will commence in September of 2016, with first resident move-ins taking place in January of 2017. Retail openings are slated for Q1 of 2017, and we can’t wait to tell you who is coming! To join the wait list for Quimby and The Russell, please contact Field House at Bay Meadows at (650-351-9388). We look forward to showing off these great new homes, clustered on the Town Square at Landing Green Park!
