Apple Season Arrives in San Mateo
Move over pumpkin spice, from clever to classic, apples are making an entrance this autumn at Bay Meadows and beyond. Whether you’re looking for a sweet treat for the kids, creative cocktail for a fall party or new sip to serve up, apples hits the spot. Find freshly picked apples at the 25th Avenue San Mateo Farmers Market, College of San Mateo Farmers Market or the San Carlos Farmers Market where you can greet the growers and dig into recipes to celebrate apple season:
Apple Cider Doughnuts. Use your apple cider to whip up a batch of these delicious apple cider doughnuts. Share a batch with friends and family who appreciate a hot, fresh apple cider treat.
Apple Cider Coffee Cake. The crumb layer is rich and buttery with a hint of cinnamon. A sweet glaze is drizzled over the top to finish it off. Cut a big slice and grab a mug of hot cider.
Mulled Cider. No fall party at Bay Meadows would be complete without this warm, spicy classic, laced with maple syrup. In this go-to recipe, the sweetness of syrup balanced with kicky peppercorns brings autumn into your mug.
Apple Sauce. A simple side to so many autumn meals, make jars of your favorite apple sauce from scratch! Want to kick it up a notch, throw in some red-hot candies and melt them in the final product.
Harvest Mimosas. Now this will get you into the holiday spirit. Whether you’re toasting to autumn or obsessed with apple cider, these mimosas are insanely delish. Invite neighbors in to warm your new home!

U-Pick It. Apples, pears, persimmons and more! Apple-A-Day Ratzlaff Ranch in Sebastopol is open September through October for U-pick season! Apple-A-Day Ratzlaff Ranch offers Gravenstein, Golden Delicious, and Rome apples. Don’t forget to purchase fresh apple juice to take home and spice up yourself!

Apple Cider Floats. Topped with whipped cream, drizzled with caramel and garnished with apple slices and cinnamon stick, you’ll want to float away with these apple cider floats!
Apple Butter. If you’re planning on doing some apple picking along the SF Peninsula this Fall then making apple butter is a must! This handy recipe is all made in the slow cooker and will leave your house smelling amazing!
Warm Vanilla Cider. Topped with whipped cream and honeyed walnuts, and you can check off dessert. Leave out the bourbon and the kids will love it.
Cider Slushies. Cinnamon-sugar mini donut garnish optional, but highly encouraged.
