Sunflower Picking at Andreotti Family Farms
Nothing says fall like sunflowers and pumpkins! And there’s no better place to kick off Autumn in a field of sunflowers than Andreotti Family Farms. Just over13 miles from Bay Meadows, its location near Half Moon Bay makes this destination a convenient day trip. This family business has managed the land for three generations beginning in 1926. The current owners grandparents, Dino Andreotti and Julia Benedetti started the farm, producing primarily artichokes, beans, and broccoli. This was among the first farms to join in the Farmer’s Market movement in 1943, selling at the Alemany Market in San Francisco. Their son Dino and his wife Terry took over in the seventies. Now the family farm is starting on its 4th generation, producing just about every winter vegetable you can imagine. In fact, you’ve probably greeted them at one of our local markets including Belmont Farmers Market or College of San Mateo Farmers Market. Each year the farm transforms from a You Pick Sunflower Field to a corn maize along side the pumpkin patch.
We had a great time picking sunflowers here with the kiddos recently. We came on a Sunday right when they opened and had the field to ourselves the whole time. All the employees were so friendly and welcoming. They have cutters you can use, but we brought our own. You can make reservations online and they sent a very informative email ahead of time so we were totally prepared. ~ Yelper, Michele B.
Peak season for sunflower picking is between September and October. Picture yourself in a field of sunflowers! From private events to professional photo shoots this farm offers it all. Located at 800 Cabrillo Hwy N in Half Moon Bay, the 2023 U-Pick Sunflower season will run from September 1, 2023 through October 31, 2023. Andreotti Family Farms is open to the public seven days per week, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but if you would like to visit at a different time, they also have private offerings. Book your own private photo shoot with their resident photographer, which includes professional editing! In addition, with the fall season quickly approaching, Andreotti Family Farms has several other fun events planned to channel all the fall feels which include farm-to-table dinners, festivals and classes.
Loved coming here for the sunflower field! I’ve been wanting to come here for a while and luckily I grabbed some tickets for the U-pick flowers. The tickets are $20/person and you can stay for 50 min and cut and take home 5 flowers. They do provide sanitized cutters so you can cut the flowers down and they provide instructions on how to cut and everything you need to know. ~ Yelper, Ash D.
