The Bay Meadows February Agenda

Hello, February. Get ready to fall in love with activities in the Bay Meadows neighborhood and just beyond. We’ve rounded up an agenda complete with dinners for two, wine pairings, cooking classes, plant workshops, romantic walks, Lunar New Year celebrations, and much, much more. Explore your creative side with clay at Clayroom Bay Meadows: Book now to join a four-hour workshop in March led by Dwayne Sackey, where you’ll delve into his unique faceting, altering, slip design, and carving techniques. The workshop is on March 10 from 11am – 3pm.

Intro to Clay. 2024 enrollments are now open! Start your month off with a Beginner 6 Week Intro to Wheel Throwing at Clayroom in San Mateo. A great starting place for an intense 6-week course where students are introduced to throwing on the wheel, trimming work, surface design techniques, glazing, and a week of hand-building that can be used to incorporate into wheelwork or on its own. Roam Bay Meadows Town Square and nosh on the Winter Menu this month which includes items like Classic Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese, Hazelnut Chocolate Shake, Charred Broccoli with Lemon and Parmesan and an incredible Fried Chicken Sandwich with Mozzarella, Pesto and Marinara Sauce.

Bicycle Sundays. A 3.8-mile segment of Cañada Road along Crystal Springs Regional Trail is closed between the Filoli entrance and Highway 92 allowing for non-motorized activities. Check for holiday closures.

February 2, First Friday at CuriOdyssey. Dance to some of your favorite pop and rock hits while enjoying animal presentations and food and a special Lion Dance Performance in San Mateo.

February 2, First Friday. The San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City will be open without admission fees the first Friday of every month as part of its continuing “FREE First Fridays” program.

February 3, 7, 10, 14,17, 21, 24, 28  Bay Meadows Run Club. Hit the 3 mile loop at Bay Meadows with your neighbors Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. This weekly event welcomes all people at all levels (walkers included). Generously launched, led and organized by our newest retailers at Basecamp San Mateo, the group often gathers in Town Square for a Blue Bottle coffee or at Fieldwork Brewing after each run.

February 3, Live Music at Par 3 at Poplar Creek. Grab your friends and come out for Saturday nights under the tent overlooking the golf course in San Mateo.

February 3, 10, 17, 24, College of San Mateo Farmers’ Market. Shop seasonally and fresh each Saturday from 9am to 1pm (year-round) at San Mateo’s largest farmer’s market located at 1700 West Hillsdale Boulevard. Bring a big shopping bag or two because the farmers’ tables are filled with the freshest winter fruits and vegetables like citrus and winter greens to delightful gifts like cut flowers, local honey, jams and sauces, locally-made olive oil, and chocolates. Also find fresh eggs, grass-fed beef, cheeses, and seafood. Watch for Bok Choy!

February 4, Lunar New Year Celebration. Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with a variety of cultural performances, crafts, refreshments, and more in Belmont.

February 7, Buttercream Flower Cupcakes. An introductory class in San Mateo on buttercream piping flowers, blossoms and leaves. Take your finished cupcakes home with you at the end of class.

February 8, Baricci Wine Dinner. Owner of Baricci Winery, Francesco Buffi will be sharing his knowledge and the rich history of his family’s winemaking as Chef Andrea and his culinary team curate a four-course dinner to pair with the high-quality wines from Baricci at Pausa Bar & Cookery in San Mateo.

February 9 – 18, SF Beer Week Comes to San Mateo at Bay Meadows! Fieldwork San Mateo Brewing’s taproom will be hosting a Blind Flight Tasting Challenge, where guests will be given a predetermined flight of 6 single-hop beers with a flight card to mark guesses. If they guess all the beers correctly, they’ll win a Fieldwork shirt! This will be going on all beer week.

February 10, 10th Annual West Coast Craft Can Invitational. Join some of the best breweries on the West Coast for tastes of 75+ styles of all craft, all cans at Devil’s Canyon in San Carlos. Mark your calendars for an all you can eat pizza party on 2/13 during Beer Week festivities!

February 10, Chinese New Year Jade Plant Workshop. Get ready to unleash your creativity and make a unique piece of art that will serve as a symbol of luck throughout the year in San Mateo.

February 10, Celebrate the Year of the Dragon. Experience an extraordinary celebration at the Hillsdale in San Mateo including red envelope scratch off giveaways, performances and more.

February 11, Apartment Collection Super Bowl Party. Apartment Collection at Bay Meadows residents are invited to a Superbowl Party in The Morgan Lounge! Kick-off starts at 3pm. Join apartment residents to cheer on your favorite Super Bowl team (go Niners!). Food and drinks will be provided!

February 11, Sunday San Mateo Pickup Kickball. Join the bi-weekly Peninsula Kickballers’ kickball pickup at Bay Meadows Park in San Mateo. Beginners welcome – no experience or commitment necessary.

February 11, Valentine’s Day Wreath or Air Plant Globe Terrarium Workshop. Create a unique Heart Shaped Wreath or a Hanging Globe terrarium while learning about Valentine’s Day history in San Mateo.

February 11, Open Sundays. The Garden Center in San Mateo grounds are open to the public for walk in visits, and plants are available for purchase. Bring the family (dogs on leash ok) to see the gardens and enjoy this quiet little oasis.

February 11, Flying Footballs and Robo Bowl. Join the excitement of the big game as the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos explores the combination of football and flight in a family-friendly extravaganza.

February 13, SF Beer Week Continues! Head to Fieldwork San Mateo Beer Garden at Bay Meadows for an All-You-Can-Eat Pizza Party  from 5-8pm in the taproom. Guests will pay $10 for all the Detroit-style pizza they can eat!

February 13, 14, & 15, Stella Cole: Love Notes at Filoli. Bring your Valentine to Woodside for this unforgettable concert experience, where intimate table seating and sultry sounds evoke the iconic sounds of yesteryear.

February 14, Grapes and Giggles Valentine’s Comedy Show. Stand-up comedy at the iconic Domenico Winery in San Carlos.

February 17, Bair Island Walking Tour. Join Peninsula Open Space Trust for an opportunity to walk at the Bair Island Unit of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Redwood City.

February 18, Chocolate Swiss Roll in San Mateo. Every participant will make their own bittersweet chocolate Swiss roll cake from scratch. Filled with chocolate whipped cream and decorate with chocolate ganache.

February 23, Apartment Collection at Bay Meadows: Yarre with Amy. Bay Meadows Apartment Collection residents are invited to this complimentary Yarre class every Final Friday of the month. Join neighbors in The Morgan’s gorgeous fitness center at 5pm for an hour of stretching, bending and planking with Amy Waldman from Shed Club San Mateo. Just one more reason to call Bay Meadows home!

February 24, Lunar New Year. Head to the History Museum in Redwood City to celebrate the Year of the Dragon. Craft activities for kids inside the museum.

February 24, 13th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration. Redwood City will be hosting the 13th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration with lion dancers, martial artists, taiko drummers, and other live performances.

February 25, Belmont Walks – McDougal Park. Take a walk in Belmont!

February 27, Japanese Tea Ceremony in Redwood City with Hiroki Kumai. Each guest will be gifted sample of the tea presented at the ceremony, to take home.
