Wine Walk Returns to Downtown San Mateo on Sep 10th
Enjoy an afternoon exploring Downtown San Mateo at this popular event. Downtown merchants open their shops as Tasting Rooms where you can sip and savor wines from California and beyond. Merchants also partner with local restaurants or provide light bites to nibble while you taste. Check out video highlights from last year!
Participating wineries include Flying Suitcase, Fortino, Hunter DeHaven, Jazz Cellars, Pat Paulsen, Renner, Russian Ridge, Tank House, Wrights Station, and the Calaveras Wine Grape Alliance.
The Downtown San Mateo Association (DSMA) shared with Bay Meadows the inside scoop on the upcoming Downtown San Mateo Wine Walk:
Q: What do you feel makes the Downtown San Mateo Wine Walk stand out from others?
DSMA: San Mateo’s Wine Walk is a discovery of our unique Downtown. It’s a relaxed and intimate event where each of our merchant tasting rooms creates a unique experience for visitors. Each merchant is paired with a boutique winery, and most also partner with local restaurants to provide small bites. The Wine Walk is held in the afternoon, ending at 6pm so that guests can finish their day with dinner Downtown.
Q: What are 3 things that guests can look forward to in 2016 that haven’t been offered in the past?
DSMA: We’re developing some unusual wine and food pairings “beyond cheese and crackers,” so that guests can learn new ways to think about wine. We’re also bringing more music Downtown for the event, including a local resident who has performed with Beach Blanket Babylon.
The DSMA is working with wineries and local merchants to create memorable experiences in the tasting rooms. Stay tuned through the summer for all the details!
Q: Are there any new participants this year?
DSMA: Yes, we have some new businesses and wineries participating this year, and many of the favorites have returned. We’re excited to have representatives from the Calaveras Wine Group, which represents different wineries from that area, pouring at a new tasting room – US Bank.
Q: What’s been one of the most popular wine pairings among guests?
DSMA: People love Edmond’s Florist – they pair the wine experience with flowers for your hair!
