Red Hot Round Up Returns Sept 17th (12-5pm)
San Mateo’s hottest summertime event returns to Bay Meadows on Saturday, September 17th with live entertainment at its core. Lace up those skates or rent some at the event, we’re turning part of Landing Green Park into a Pop-up Roller Rink! Get ready to burn the pavement with your hot wheels set to favorite tunes from DJ Consuelo. There will be line dancing on stage by The Hot Tamales and Mambo Groovin’ Latin Dance Theater will be performing several dances plus teaching a FUN Salsa lesson. Express your creative side! Grab a paintbrush and collaborate with friends on the interactive art wall, Artmobilus rolls into Bay Meadows bringing public art to the park in the form of a large community mural. The fun continues with roving entertainment while you picnic in the park.
Perfect the craft! There will be children’s workshops, with supplies to share, teaching kids to spin poi, spin hoop and juggle too. Purchase tickets early and you’ll be entered into a raffle to WIN a RED HOT PUBLIC bike! This year we’re giving away an adult bike and a PUBLIC Kids Bike too.
Enter the Spicy Smackdown against San Mateo Fire Department!
Practice your pepper eating, gather your friends and get ready for a spicy smackdown of hot wings from Cluck it Up! Know someone that can “beat the heat” and enjoys spicy food like no other? Help us spread the word! A limited number of contestants will have the opportunity to purchase tickets in our challenge against the San Mateo Fire Department. One lucky winner will walk away with a weekend getaway to Calistoga’s Hot Springs! Second Prize wins a $200 gift card to San Mateo’s All Spice Restaurant. Earning a Michelin star and rave reviews from critics around the Bay Area since its inception, the restaurant serves inventive Indian fusion cuisine in a charming converted house with vivid teal walls. Third prize is a $100 gift card to Oxgut Hose Company, featuring hand-crafted, upcycled products with a heroic past that are made from genuine retired fire hose salvaged from US fire departments!
A portion of RHRU proceeds will be donated to the San Mateo City Parks and to the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, a burn prevention and education charity championed by the San Mateo Fire Department. While you’re eating and heating up, help raise money for these good causes by entering the Spicy Wings Contest, emceed by NBC Bay Area’s Mike Inouye. Test your heat palate against other firefighters of the San Mateo Fire Dept in the contest and get a shot at winning the grand prize of a weekend at Calistoga Hot Springs.
Did we mention? Some of the Bay Area’s hottest food trucks will join us at Landing Green Park in San Mateo. Guests will enjoy a full afternoon of lounging and lawn games, face painting, shopping and shenanigans from San Mateo Fire Department while eating some of the Bay Area’s most creative cuisine with a few spicy options just for you!
From Filipino Fusion to Vietnamese and Peruvian to Mediterranean Cuisine, we have a full line-up of International street cuisine that includes: We Sushi, 3 Brothers Kitchen, Big Ed’s Buzzard BBQ and Cluck It Up. If the spicy specialty dishes just aren’t enough heat for you, our favorite Award Winning spicy sauces will be on hand, including Palo Alto Firefighters Pepper Sauce, Hella Hot Hot Sauce + Lucky Dog Hot Sauce!
We’ll have something cool to satisfy your sweet tooth. Frozen Kuhsterd invites you to sample California’s first frozen custard food truck featuring unique flavors, sundaes and sandwiches inspired by the owners’ own ethnic backgrounds and foods they’ve eaten around the world. (Try the Thai Tea, Salt & Pepper Potato Chip or Four Barrel Coffee!) Want to combine hot and cool? Sriracha lovers will delight in Frozen Kuhsterd’s Hellfire Sundae, a scoop of your choice topped with Sriracha popcorn, Sriracha burnt caramel, and finished with Blair’s 3am Hot Sauce! Boba, anyone? The Bay Area’s first boba & dessert truck. t,epiphany will roll into Landing Green Park bringing the finest loose-leaf teas from Asia to create fun and innovative drinks.
Pop on over and introduce yourself to our hometown crew, the San Mateo Firefighters Association will be manning the RHRU Beer Truck, where you’ll find cold brews!
Truck on over. Enjoy easy access via bike trails and Caltrain – Hillsdale Station – too.
Go by bike… Bike valet will be provided by Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition.
Kids 7 and under enter FREE! Well behaved pets on leash with responsible owners are welcome.
