What inspired you to begin a career in fitness?
Actually, my inspiration started when I was 11 years old, shortly after I found my love for the martial arts. Through many years of training, teaching, and reaping the benefits of good health and athleticism, I decided to go back to school and earn my B.S. Degree in Kinesiology. I realized that through a challenging and inspirational exercise environment, I can help people achieve things that they never thought they could, physically and mentally.
What do you love most about the Peninsula location in terms of fitness?
I think the weather actually plays a huge role in fitness. With moderate weather, there are more options for places to exercise, namely outdoors. It’s not too hot nor too cold, so people enjoy being outdoors when the weather is nice.
Favorite outdoor fit destination in San Mateo? I really enjoy Seal Point Park in San Mateo and Leo J. Ryan Park in Foster City.
If you could choose one activity that is the most popular among clients, which would it be? Kickboxing
The best advice anyone ever gave me is: You are capable of more than you think you are.
Outside of the fitness center, what would your active lifestyle include?
Normally, my weekdays are pretty packed with activity, training and teaching or working out. So, my weekends are typically much more leisurely…yoga, walks, bike rides, motorcycle rides through the mountains. During the summer, I enjoy taking my boat out to go wakeboarding and camping. During the winter, ummmm, I spend more time exercising my brain. I study a lot and try to learn new skills as a trainer and teacher. I recently took guitar lessons so, I practice a few times a week.
Sprint or Distance? Sprint
Favorite Heart Healthy Meal: Salmon fish tacos on corn tortillas and my homemade, spicy salsa
My guilty pleasure is: Donuts
My biggest obstacle is: Wanting to learn it all
