Getting Involved in Local Bike Issues
It’s a new month, a new season and you’ve decided to try bicycling more. Maybe you even want to bike to work? Or you’re one of many San Mateo residents ready to try sharing bicycles with Bay Bikes.
Or, perhaps you’ve been a two-wheel commuter for a while and you’d like to see some support for this mode of transportation?
Whichever reflects your own relationship to bicycling, the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) is here to help you! The longtime advocacy group’s mission is to create a healthy community, environment, and economy through bicycling for people who live, work, or play in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.
And the SVBC has a special initiative in central San Mateo County, with an eye to helping folks enjoy the newly installed shared Bay Bikes. Sign up for SVBC’s e-Bulletin to be notified of their organization’s upcoming trainings focused on the San Mateo region..
The trainings provide valuable information, where you can learn about:
- SVBC’s mission and work in Central San Mateo County
- How local residents like you can make a difference
- Opportunities for volunteering in your community
- San Mateo’s new bike share system
They are also an opportunity to network with neighbors and others who are passionate about bicycling issues in your community.
You can also get involved by attending a committee meeting on the first Thursday of each month. Check out SVBC’s San Mateo County Local Team and sign up for our SMC and North SMC email groups.
Looking to mix up your fitness routine? Meet your neighbors and enjoy the fresh air with pop-up fitness and yoga classes at Bay Meadows. Or maybe mixing it up with your pooch is more your style. Twilight Tails, Thursdays 5-6 pm at Landing Green Park, is a chance to meet other dog-owners and hear about local pet resources. Is gardening more your speed? Our monthly Dig It! Workshops in Persimmon Park are free and open to the public. Also, keep an eye out for our annual end-of-summer Red Hot Round-Up spicy food truck event. Check out our Facebook page for more events.
