With holiday season upon us, we’re thinking about ways to give back to those less fortunate in our region. If you are considering how you can support those in-need in your community, Bay Meadows has some ideas.

WARM COAT DRIVE:

What: Louie and Mary Ann, the team behind “Your Neighborhood Real Estate Experts,” are collecting gently used, warm coats from Bay Meadows residents for One Warm Coat. The mission of this San Francisco-based nonprofit is a simple one: to provide anyone in need with a warm coat, free of charge.
When: Saturday, November 12th
Where: Simply leave your coat donation on your stoop. Louie and Mary Ann will pick them up later that day.
Why: One Warm Coat is effective at helping keep those less fortunate warm during the winter. Since its founding 22 years ago, the charity has provided over 300,000 children with new coats of their own.

SHOP FOR A CHANGE:

What: Based in San Mateo, Shopping for a Change a global online store for fair trade products by artisans and companies that employ artisans. Consider purchasing some holiday gifts from this innovative charity, based practically in Bay Meadows’ backyard.
When: It’s online, so anytime. Perhaps consider shopping on Cyber Monday?
Where: www.shoppingforachange.org – Shop and support disadvantaged communities from the comfort of your home.
Why: The nonprofit empowers indigenous artisans (particularly women) from economically disadvantaged communities throughout the world.

FOOD DRIVE:

What: Donate food or money or volunteer your time at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. You can use the Food Bank’s website to find local food drives near you. Or donate food directly at one of their three centers or multiple drop off locations.
When: The need is great throughout the year, but during the holidays, but the Food Bank welcomes extra helping hands and donations during this season.
Where: Scroll to the bottom of this page and plug in your zip to find the nearest food drive site.
Why: Since 1974, Second Harvest has been distributing food to low-income residents of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. It now hands out 1 million pounds of food every week, half of which is fresh produce.

Businesses expanding or relocating within Silicon Valley, San Francisco or the greater Bay Area need look no further. Bay Meadows has 5 new office buildings conveniently located on Caltrain. Station 4 will be the new headquarters for SurveyMonkey, which will occupy the building in mid-2016. Station 3 is under construction and now leasing. These state-of-the-art buildings feature floor to ceiling glass, bike storage, expansive floorplates and locker room facilities. All Bay Meadows Station buildings will have access to 18 acres of open space, a social street featuring coffee shops, restaurants, bocce court and plenty of outdoor gathering spaces. The buildings are minutes from the Hillsdale Caltrain Station and proximal to SFO. It’s just 10 minutes to Palo Alto and SFO and 25 minutes to San Francisco!
