Residents Reveal Their Favorites

As previous “cool city-dwellers” from Chicago, Bay Meadows residents Julie and her husband have been particularly looking forward to the opening of retail at the Town Square. While the suburban elements at Bay Meadows attracted the family, the urban parts of our “mid-urban” community had particular appeal.

Julie chose to kick off her birthday enjoying a decaf Americano at newly opened Blue Bottle Coffee with her neighbor Soli. Soli’s beverage of choice was an almond cappuccino. The pair were thrilled to have a new gathering spot in our burgeoning neighborhood.

Whether it’s the sleek, modern interior, the liege waffles, the gourmet pour-overs or the morning greeting from a friendly barista, Blue Bottle is hitting all the right notes for the Bay Meadows community.

With Blue Bottle now joining Fieldwork Brewing Company and Tin Pot Creamery, some local residents are discovering their favorite products and go-to items. Julie’s son Jamie (pictured with Mom, above, left) recommends the mint-chocolate chip from Tin Pot, which “must be savored in a divine waffle cone,” says Julie.

And from the beer garden? “I prefer wine, and they offer a refreshing Chardonnay … but I do enjoy their coffee stouts, too.” To celebrate her birthday, Julie’s husband was treating her to dinner at a San Mateo Michelin-honored restaurant: Pausa, which recently was awarded a Bib Gourmand from the prestigious French culinary tastemaker.

Originally from England, Julie speaks effusively of her newly adopted neighborhood:

“The community is very special – we all moved in at the same time. So knowing people when you’re walking around, when you stop by Blue Bottle, when you’re out for a walk … you’re guaranteed to see a familiar, smiling face. The neighborhood really promotes social engagement.”

Morning, Noon, Evening Activity
Another Bay Meadows resident, Karen takes Caltrain to work each day, which has made the new retail a key part of her daily activities.

“Love to have a Blue Bottle in the neighborhood! I work in downtown San Francisco and have been buying Blue Bottle beans from their locations in SF. Now I am very happy to be able to buy beans in my own neighborhood.”

And in the evenings? Karen says Fieldwork has been a great fit for her family. “It’s just really nice to be able to take a stroll on a warm night to the brewery and enjoy a beer anytime we feel like it. We’ve taken our 8 year old son, too, and he always has fun running around, playing and enjoying the fire-pits.”
