Taishoken Ramen Comes to San Mateo

San Mateo has always had a great foodie scene, offering a variety of international cuisine that reflect our diverse population.  It was recently announced that a new Japanese ramen restaurant will soon open its doors in San Mateo, occupying the former space of Kisaku, another Japanese restaurant at 47 E 4th Avenue.

San Mateo Ups Its Ramen Game.
This isn’t any old ramen house, as covered in a recent Eater SF article:

Ramen aficionados are likely already familiar with tsukemen, the ramen dish in which noodles are served alongside rich broth for dipping. That dish originated at the legendary ramen restaurant Taishoken in 1961; there are now over one hundred locations in Japan.

Now a location of the groundbreaking restaurant will open in San Mateo in late May, opened by a scion of the family ramen business. CEO Yoshihiro Sakagachi, grandson of co-founder Masayasu Sakaguchi and relative of Kazuo Yamagishi (widely credited with creating tsukemen).

So what can patron expect to find at San Mateo’s latest food addition?  Incorporating local ingredients, the menu will include tsukemen as well as traditional ramen, small plates, and tasty desserts.  The full-service restaurant will offer a casual lunch setting and a more refined dining dinner service, with ramen, appetizers and small dishes, paired with sake and wine.

We can’t wait for the opening of the first official Taishoken restaurants in California.  Welcome to San Mateo.
