Celebrate Pi Day on March 14 @ Heidi’s Pies

Pi (π) is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. A constant number, meaning that for all circles of any size, Pi will be the same. Celebrated by millions of students and math-lovers around the world on March 14th (3/14), since 3, 1, and 4 are the three most significant digits in the decimal form, Pi is a mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, and it is also one of the most revered mathematical constants in the known world.

Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. While only a handful of digits are needed for typical calculations, Pi’s infinite nature makes it a fun challenge to memorize, and to computationally calculate more and more digits. March 14 also happens to be the birth date of Albert Einstein — which makes the day an extra special one for planning math challenges and math fun!

Now that you know your pi – it’s time to celebrate! Use your pi mug. Wear your pi t-shirt. Run 3.14 miles. Celebrate the exact pi minute at 1:59pm. Play pi games. Or you can just eat pie, which may be the easiest and the most fun way to celebrate Pi Day.
