Looking for a great place to ride this spring? Bay Meadows and the surrounding San Mateo area are bike-friendly with many different paths to ride and sights to see. San Mateo County offers miles upon miles of scenic bike trails from cruiser paths and family-friendly destinations to more extreme mountain terrain. Biking is an excellent way to experience the beautiful outdoors of the greater Peninsula with breathtaking views, wildlife and the cool ocean breeze.

Whether you are looking for an urban ride to run errands or a path for the whole family, there are so many ways to enjoy San Mateo County on two wheels, here are a few of our top picks to help you get rolling!

Bay Meadows Park. A 12-acre city sport park in our neighborhood, this park is perfectly designed to help toddlers on training wheels get rolling while parents walk along! Bay Meadows Park offers several amenities including a full size soccer field, a restroom facility, picnic facilities, a passive lawn area and a long walking path that loops around the park. There’s even a duck pond to entertain the whole family.

Other park features include a large pond that is beautifully landscaped and home to a variety of wildlife.

The Bay Trail. You can begin the journey directly from Bay Meadows as this trail extends over 300 miles through the inland area of the Coyote Point Recreation Area, along the San Pablo Bay and all the way around the San Francisco Bay. Accessible from cities around the Bay, the trail offers something for everyone, regardless of skill level. As an added bonus, the trail is pet friendly – so bring your four-legged friends along for the ride.

Crystal Springs Regional Trail. This incredibly scenic ride is the most popular trail in the San Mateo County Park System. The trail is divided into three segments, offering flat and incline trails. Enjoy a beautiful paved trail with some gorgeous scenery on the Sawyer Camp segment. Midway along the segment is where one will find the 600+ year old Jepson Laurel.

Seal Point Park. Seal Point Park offers a variety of terrain, hills for the pros and flat trails for the novice or family adventures. Keep your eyes open when on the trail and take your time wandering through restored natural habitats. Take your time pedaling through restored natural habitats where you’ll find wildlife of all sorts alongside breathtaking views of the Bay. Enjoy a nice breeze at this coastal spot. Don’t forget your pooch! Seal Point Dog Park is a popular and spacious three acre off-leash dog park with big dog and small dog areas.

San Mateo County Bicycle Sundays. The stretch from Highway 92 to the Fioli Center is closed to automobile traffic every Sunday from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Enjoy spectacular views of the Pulgas Ridge Open Space Reserve and water Temple, Edgewood County Park, Fioli Estate and Santa Cruz Mountains by pedal power.

Coyote Point Park. If you’ve got the kids in tow on bike seats, explore the giant, castle-and-dragon-themed Magic Mountain Playground, get up-close to animals at CuriOdyssey, watch the sailboats from the marina or just set up lunch at a picnic table by the bay.

Shoreline Park is comprised of two parts – Ryder Court Park and Seal Point Park – it offers an abundance of open space and scenic views of the San Francisco Bay. Seal Point Park includes a multitude of pathways for walking, cycling, bird watching and a three acre dog park. Its neighbor, Ryder Park includes a water theme play park, picnic facilities, native history interpretive panels and an outdoor classroom created by the shell mound gurgles tidal flows from the bay.
