At Bay Meadows, you’re in close to everything under the sun! Stretched along the Bay just steps from the Hillsdale Caltrain Station, Bay Meadows makes it a breeze to get around. Here, you can hop on a train, pedal miles of trails up and down the Peninsula, or explore more than 18-acres of rambling open space, sustainably designed streetscapes, miles of trails and a string of charming pocket parks. While you’re out discovering your new favorite spot this fall, snap a selfie and share it with us! To get you inspired we’ve rounded up a few spots to make the most of the autumn scenery around San Mateo County and beyond.

Pumpkin Patch pics. Arata’s Pumpkin Farm is the must-visit destination for all your pumpkin needs. Challenge yourself mentally and physically in the world famous two-acre Minotaur’s Labyrinth hay maze, take in the wonders of the six-acre corn field and Pumpkin River. Farmer John’s Pumpkin Farm is a popular pumpkin farm offering more than 60 varieties of pumpkins and squash that are perfect for carving or cooking. Or plan a visit to family-owned farm Andreotti Family Farms pumpkin patch for their field of yellow sunflowers, fun corn maze and Sunflower Salutation Yoga. Another great spot for pumpkin photography is the family-owned Webb Ranch in Portola Valley.

Baylands Nature Preserve. This 1,940-acre preserve is one of the largest tracts of undisturbed marshland remaining in the San Francisco Bay Area! Located in Palo Alto, it offers about 15 miles of multi-use trails and access to a unique mixture of tidal and freshwater habitats, and a prime spot for autumn evening snaps.

Just beyond your door at Bay Meadows in San Mateo, you’ll find the Sawyer Camp segment of the Crystal Springs Regional Trail (offering stellar views of the fall foliage), Shoreline Parks, which Seal Point Park is contained within and Coyote Point. Coyote Point is a regional recreation area that provides a wide variety of opportunities: picnicking, swimming, windsurfing, bicycling, jogging, fishing, boating, and sailing. Stroll along the beach promenade, visit the marina and its breakwater, or explore the saltwater marsh. See shorebirds, colorful boats, windsurfers, and planes from the San Francisco International Airport.

Get the fall feels at Pulgas Ridge Open Space Preserve. This 366-acre site near the City of San Carlos offers trails for hiking and walking one’s dog, including an off-leash area. The preserve’s six miles of trails offers access to cool canyons and a ridge top with views toward the bay and surrounding hillsides.

Filoli blooms all year round. Fall is a wonderful time to visit the formal gardens at Filoli Historic House & Garden. The Estate Trail is a one-mile self-guided walk through the Nature Preserve and past the Sally MacBride Nature Center. Explore the gorgeous garden or catch a limited Orchard Day where you can weave through rows of apple trees and grapevines as you learn about food production past and present, listen to live music and find local artists selling their work. Before you go, settle into a redwood chair in the shade, sip on cider and take a fall-themed photo in the exquisite autumn light.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse. Located between Pescadero and Año Nuevo State Park, this historic 115-foot lighthouse is one of the tallest in the United States and has been guiding mariners since 1872. The coastal views are some of the best in the area. You can snap an amazing fall sunset pic here.

Autumn at Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden is a beautiful spot to take in the fall scenery. The historic two-and-a-half-acre property includes a rose garden, cutting garden, formal herb garden, demonstration bed, wisteria garden, and an allée.

And we can’t forget Central Park’s Japanese Tea Garden, designed by landscape architect Nagao Sakurai of the Imperial Palace of Tokyo and featuring authentic amenities such as a granite pagoda, tea house, koi pond, and bamboo grove. This is a hidden gem and gorgeous year round.
