Opt Outdoors: Regional Runs for 2022
Runners rejoice. The San Francisco Peninsula has a variety of scenic and challenging runs for you to experience in 2022. If you are a regular runner or just getting into running, here is a list of local runs, both physical and virtual, that you’ll want to add to your fitness calendar.
Waterfront 10 Mile & 5K – January 23 & 24 – Brisbane
Join us for a flat, fast, and scenic out and back run along the beautiful Bay Trail. Both courses are USATF Certified (10M – #CA12024TK, 5K – CA12025TK).
Rockaway Beach 5K – January 30 & 31 – Pacifica
Scenic, oceanfront, out and back course along paved bike path. Race starts/finishes at the Rockaway Beach parking lot, located at San Marlo Way near the Lighthouse Hotel.
Golden Gate (Winter) Trail Run – February 5 – Sausalito
Enjoy vistas of the Pacific Coast and of the spectacular Marin Headlands with views of Tiburon, San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Montara Mountain Trail Run – February 13 – Pacifica
Montara Mountain features the only undisturbed Coastal Mountain Habitat found over 100 miles of coastline. Experience groves of Huckleberry, Honeysuckle, Lilac, Chinquapin and Manzanita, with beautiful views of the Pacific Coast as you climb.
Saratoga to the Sea Trail Run – February 19 – Saratoga
Runners and hikers will start and finish at Sanborn County Park. After you finish, you will be served by Food Network Celebrity Chef Yaku Moton-Spruill. With over 3,000 feet of total elevation gain in the half marathon and over 2,000 of elevation gain in the 8K, you will be challenged and have plenty of time to finish.
Sunrise to Sunset 1M, 5K, 10K, 13.1, 26.2 – March 5 – San Francisco
This is a 1 Mile, 5K, 10K, 13.1, 26.2 virtual run (or walk) to celebrate all of the amazing sunrises and sunsets out there! You choose which distance you want to complete.
Zoom San Francisco (Spring) – March 19 – San Francisco
All races start/finish at East Beach and head West along the popular Golden Gate Promenade. The 5K event climbs up Battery East trail to the Golden Gate Bridge before heading back to the finish. The 10K and Half Marathon courses continue underneath the Golden Gate and follow the Coastal Trail to Baker Beach with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean along the way. The 10K turns around at the Baker Beach aid station while the Half Marathoners head through Seacliff and continue along Coastal Trail to the turnaround at Lands End overlooking the historic Sutro Bath.
Lam Research Heart & Soles Run – March 26 – Santa Clara
Hit the pavement in support of children’s health and wellness at the 9th Annual Lam Research Heart & Soles 5K/10K Run! The course will start and finish at the historic Santa Clara University.
Half Moon Bay Triathlons – April 10 – Half Moon Bay
One of the most beautiful locations on the Northern California coastside. The Half Moon Bay Triathlon offers a safe harbor swim environment, beautiful bike course along the coast, one transition, and a run course along the beach on the coastal trail.
2022 Jenny’s Light Run – May 22 – Los Gatos
Jenny’s Light Run takes place at Vasona Park. All proceeds from the event will go directly to Supporting Mamas. They provide information, resources, support & hope to families coping with perinatal mood disorders.
Steps for Pad Challenge – September 9 – Redwood City
This September, help Vascular Cures and Medtronic spread the word about PAD! Challenge yourself to walk, run, hike, or wheel over 10 days. Log your miles between September 9th and September 18th. Use a tracking app like Strava, Garmin, MapMyRun, or others to log your activities. Submit your daily mileage and time for a chance at prizes and recognition.
