The Bay Meadows January Agenda

January brings together a bright new year with a whole host of activities that’ll make your spirit soar within the Bay Meadows neighborhood and just beyond. We’re running right into 2024 with an agenda packed with ice skating, classes that explore the clay arts, hikes along the Bay Trail, interactive glowing exhibits, group runs at Bay Meadows, nature walks on the Peninsula, plus much, much more. Intro to Clay. 2024 enrollments now open! Start your month off with a Beginner 6 Week Intro to Wheel Throwing at ClayRoom in San Mateo. A great starting place for an intense 6-week course where students are introduced to throwing on the wheel, trimming work, surface design techniques, glazing, and a week of hand-building that can be used to incorporate into wheelwork or on its own.

Roam Bay Meadows Town Square and nosh on the Winter Menu this month which includes items like Classic Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese, Hazelnut Chocolate Shake, Charred Broccoli with Lemon and Parmesan and an incredible Fried Chicken Sandwich with Mozzarella, Pesto and Marinara Sauce.

Bicycle Sundays. A 3.8-mile segment of Cañada Road along Crystal Springs Regional Trail is closed between the Filoli entrance and Highway 92 allowing for non-motorized activities.

January 1, Hair of the Dog Hike at Filoli. Rejuvenate and welcome new beginnings with the hair of the dog cure for your New Years Eve ailments in Woodside.

January 1-7, San Mateo on Ice – Holiday Skating Rink. Located in San Mateo’s Central Park, the outdoor ice rink features 11,000 square feet of REAL ice.

January 1-7, Holidays at Filoli in Woodside. ‘Tis the season to make special memories, bask in the vibrant landscape, and spend time together. Step into the magic of the House decked in Holiday cheer and explore the winter Garden, where inspiration glows.

January 1-28, IlluminOdyssey. IlluminOdyssey’s interactive glowing exhibits awaken kids’ curiosity, build critical thinking skills, and inspire an interest in science and the natural world at CuriOdyssey in San Mateo.

January 3, New Years Crystal Zen Terrarium Workshop. An expert with Luludi Living Art will be your guide, taking you through the steps to making a unique ecosystem in an open glass jar in San Mateo.

January 3, 6, 10, 13,17, 20, 24, 27, 31 Bay Meadows Run Club. Hit the 3 mile loop at Bay Meadows with your neighbors Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. This weekly event welcomes all people at all levels (walkers included). Generously launched, led and organized by our newest retailers at Basecamp San Mateo, the group often gathers in Town Square for a Blue Bottle coffee or at Fieldwork Brewing after each run.

January 4, Paint & Sip at Bottle & Bottega. No experience needed at this studio in Belmont. Step-by-step painting instruction provided.

January 5, First Friday Nights. Swing into the weekend with live music, a food truck, animals and fun! On the first Friday of every month, parents and kids celebrate together at CuriOdyssey in San Mateo.

January 5, Gingerbread Houses in San Carlos. You will get to create something beautiful, learn some cardboard construction techniques, and leave with a beautiful decoration for your home.

January 6, Bay Trail Trek. Welcome in the New Year and enjoy beautiful views on this walk to the San Mateo Bridge and back.

January 6, 13, 20, 27, College of San Mateo Farmers’ Market. Shop seasonally and fresh each Saturday from 9am to 1pm (year-round) at San Mateo’s largest farmer’s market located at 1700 West Hillsdale Boulevard. Bring a big shopping bag or two because the farmers’ tables are filled with the freshest winter fruits and vegetables like citrus and winter greens to delightful gifts like cut flowers, local honey, jams and sauces, locally-made olive oil, and chocolates. Also find fresh eggs, grass-fed beef, cheeses, and seafood. Watch for mushrooms! 

January 7, Food & Wine Pairing Lab. Learn about pairing theories (and exceptions) and the progression of flavors in multi-course meals at Domenico Winery in San Carlos.

January 14, Bot Bowl. Join the Robo Bowl and take a turn commanding programmable robots to run plays in the Hiller Aviation Museum’s own robotic stadium in San Carlos.

January 19, King Tide Bair Island Interpretive Walking Tour. Learn about this beautiful, protected space, and join us for a walking tour of Bair Island during the King Tide in Redwood City.

January 21, Yoga for Beginners. Join a beginners yoga class at the Belmont public library. 

January 21, Waterfront Run. Head to Brisbane for a flat, fast, and scenic out and back run along the beautiful Bay Trail. Finisher ribbons to all participants, with place ribbons to Top 5 overall M/F/NB runners. 

January 24, Party Cake. San Mateo class designed for the beginning cake decorator and those wanting to perfect their buttercream skills.

January 26, Family Night @ Blue Oak Brewing Co. Sip on great beer and food trucks serving authentic Brazilian cuisine. Cornhole and table games will also be available, along with a photographer in San Carlos.

January 28, Rockaway Beach 5K. Scenic, oceanfront, out and back course along paved bike path in San Mateo County. Race starts/finishes at the Rockaway Beach parking lot.

January 31, Trivia Night at Freewheel Brewing Company. Bring your friends for Trivia Night on Wednesdays to Redwood City. Enjoy good beer and food!
