Be a Park Volunteer in the New Year

Combine your passion for giving with your love of the great outdoors this year! There are so many ways to give back to your local community. Becoming a volunteer through San Mateo County Parks is one way to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of San Francisco Peninsula plus it allows you to meet new neighbors and make new friendships. Whether you are a fan of spending time outdoors in our County parks with your pooch or live for wildflowers each spring. From quiet redwood forests and curiosity-inspiring tide pools to family-fun picnic sites and playgrounds, San Mateo County Parks are places to reconnect with what matters most.

Volunteer for specialty seasonal projects. Join SMC Parks on Saturdays for a variety of seasonal projects in a different park every week. Come when you can and no experience is necessary.

Work in the Mission Blue Nursery. Do you have a green thumb? If so, you’re needed at San Bruno Mountain’s Mission Blue Nursery to help grow plants for habitat restoration.

Share Some History. Sign up to educate visitors about the parks’ unique features and history. Park Docents are needed in the following parks: Edgewood and Wunderlich.

Be a part of Trail Patrol. As a member of the trail patrol, you’ll help answer visitors’ questions and report trail conditions to rangers. The commitment is one patrol per month and you will receive training.

Volunteer on the Coast – The Fitzgerald Marine Reserve needs volunteers to greet visitors when they come to the park and monitor the wildlife such as seals. Learn more!

If you passion includes sustainability. Create an Adopt-A-Block program for Bay Meadows neighborhood! Be the community leader that rallies volunteers to keep our neighborhood safe, clean, and beautiful. This program is an opportunity for citizens to adopt streets in their neighborhood for monthly cleanups.
